Highlights
  • Temple of Demeter - Meet your guide at Naxos Bus Transfer Office, right outside Naxos Port and drive directly to your first stop, Demeter’s Temple. Admire the impressive restored sanctuary, take amazing pictures and visit the small on site museum. *On Tuesdays and on the 1st of May the Temple of Demeter is closed and instead you will visit the village of Filoti. Also, the Demeter’s Temple closes early (noon) in case of predicted heat wave. In that case, the tour that departs in the afternoon (13.00) visits Filoti village instead of Demeter’s Temple
  • Chalki - Next stop will be Chalki village, the old capital and commercial center of Naxos. Get free time (approx. 40’) to explore its colorful alleys, shop unique souvenirs, visit the distillery of “Vallindras” or just enjoy a coffee at one of its cozy cafes.
  • Panagia Drossiani Church - Continue through old olive groves and reach Panagia Drosiani, a church of unique architectural style devoted to Virgin Mary- considered among the oldest in the Balkans! Here you will make a short stop to take pictures and if the church is open, also pay a quick visit to admire its unique frescoes.
  • Kinidaros - Right outside the village of Kinidaros you will make a short stop by the road to photo shoot the impressive contemporary marble quarries.
  • Melanes Kouros Statue - Walk through the lush gardens of Flerio valley and “meet” the Kouros Statue, one of the most striking examples of Naxian marble art.
  • Eggares Olive Press Museum - The restored olive press museum in Eggares is the best way to end your tour! You will learn about the century-old procedure of olive oil production, as well as taste samples of olive ingredient delicacies.
  • Filoti - On Tuesdays and on the 1st of May the Temple of Demeter is closed and instead you will visit the village of Filoti. Walk to its central church and learn the touching story of its construction followed by a short visit to the neighboring folklore museum.

An all around excellent experience - In truth, I struggle to find much to say, for such was the quality of this tour that I simply have no complaints or suggestions for improvement. So I shall say only this: if you have even a paying interest in the culture and history of Naxos then you would be doing yourself a great disservice by not going on this tour

Must do, when in Naxos. - Was a wonderful trip, Alex our guide was an encyclopedia of information about Naxos. The bus was luxurious and comfortable and the driver did an excellent job of navigating the crazy roads. I wish I did the full day, but our schedule didn't allow it.

A wonderful afternoon of culture and olives! - We had such a wonderful half day tour with NBT Excursions. Alex, the tour guide was so well informed and lovely, and spoke such impeccable English. This is a lovely tour in a clean and air conditioned bus. If you won't want to spend an entire day, this is perfect. We got to see Demeter's Temple, and visited Halki and Sangri. We also saw the Kouros statue and visited a really old church. The last part, stopping off at the Eggares Olive Press was awesome! We got to try some olives and bread and cake, and they were so delicious, we ended up buying lots. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and I highly recommend it.

Short but Sweet Overview of Naxos - I was traveling with my adult children, daughter-in-law and baby grandson. It was the perfect tour for us - good overview of Naxos but short enough to not be too taxing. I particularly liked the stop at the Olive Museum
