Highlights

The tour begins at 6 am. Please ensure you order an early or packed breakfast at your hotel. You will drive for 2.5 hours through the central countryside and arrive in Nanyuki at 8:30 am. Here, you will stop to take a photo at the iconic equator crossing point, which divides the earth into two. You will then proceed for 10 minutes to reach the gate where we will make payments and enter the park. The game drives start immediately and last for 2 hours, taking us all the way to the chimpanzee sanctuary. Here, a local guide will lead us on a guided walk, allowing you to get up close to the chimps. If you’re lucky, you may even get to feed them with the caretaker guides. At 12 pm, we will head to the Serena Sweetwaters Lodge for lunch, where you can get very close to the animals coming to the watering hole in front of the lodge. From 2 pm to 4 pm, we will have more game drives and visit Baraka, a blind rhino that has been given an enclosure. During the afternoon game drives, we will encounter the three rare northern white rhinos. From 4 pm to 5 pm, we will depart and head to Nanyuki town to meet your mountain guide. At 5 pm, we will start the drive to the gate, arriving by 6 pm, and head to the first climbing camp called Old Moses Camp. Here, you will have dinner and sleep, which is very good for acclimatization.

Day 2

We will depart early in the morning for hiking further up the mountain, climbing up to the viewpoint and the next camp called Shiptons Camp. We will have a picnic lunch here before starting our descent to arrive at the first camp by 3 pm. We will then board the awaiting car and start the drive to Nairobi, arriving around 6 pm. End of Tour

More Information

Chimps

The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established through an agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and the Jane Goodall Institute. The aim is to provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. Many are rescued from cramped and unnatural living conditions and arrive with horrific injuries from human abuse. At Sweetwaters, they get a chance to start over.

Mount Kenya

Rising to 5,199 meters, Mount Kenya is the second tallest mountain in Africa. The scenery surrounding this designated World Heritage Site is breathtaking. It is a pristine wilderness with lakes, tarns, glaciers, dense forests, mineral springs, and a variety of rare and endangered species of animals, high-altitude adapted plains game, and unique montane and alpine vegetation. Visitors can enjoy mountain climbing, camping, and caving, with the mountain’s rugged glacier-clad peaks providing the perfect backdrop.
