Shaped roughly like a circle, Mount Kenya spans roughly 60km at the 200mm contour line, where the steep hills magnificently ascend from the more gradual slopes of the central highlands. The main peaks of the massif dramatically soar from an elevation of approximately 4,500m to the primary summit of Batian at 5,199m, closely followed by Nelion at 5,188m, and Point Lenana at 4,985m.
The mountain boasts other significant summits like Point Piggott at 4,957m, Point Dutton at 4,885m, and Point John at 4,883m. Among the three main peaks, Batian, Lenana, and Nelion, only Lenana is accessible by casual Mount Kenya trekkers, while Batian and Nelion require advanced climbing skills.
