- Giraffe Centre - Begin your tour with a pick-up from your Nairobi Hotel at 8:00 am. Head to the Giraffe Centre, the headquarters for the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, made famous by ‘Daisy Rothschild.’ It’s an incredible experience to be eye-to-eye with a giraffe, giving you a true sense of the size of these gentle giants. The education center offers extensive information about the breeding and conservation of Kenya’s three rarest giraffe species. Learn about their behaviors, traits, and more as you get up close on a raised observation platform.
- KOBE TOUGH beads & leather - The next stop is the Bead Factory, a pottery company that creates some of the world’s most beautiful beads. You’ll be shown the entire process from start to finish. This unique factory employs single mothers from poor neighborhoods, providing them with a livelihood to support their families. The pottery, ceramic, and bead factory’s beautiful gifts and souvenirs are exported worldwide. A gift shop on-site stocks some of their products. Note that the workshop is closed on Saturday afternoons and all day Sunday, but the gift shop is open every day.
- Karen Blixen Museum - Next, you’ll be driven to the old colonial house of Danish author Karen Blixen. Now a museum, this property and the surrounding Ngong Hills were made famous by the book and movie ‘Out of Africa.’ It’s a must-see for Danes and lovers of African history and romance. You’ll then break for lunch (at your own expense).
- Bomas of Kenya - After lunch, drive to the Bomas of Kenya, a cultural center near the main gate to Nairobi National Park in Langata. Talented resident artists perform traditional dances and songs from various tribal groups, including Arab-influenced Swahili Taarab music, Kalenjin warrior dances, Embu drumming, and Kikuyu circumcision ceremonies. While touristy, it’s still a spectacular afternoon outing and a must-visit for all tourists. You’ll be dropped back at your hotel around 5-6 PM.
