Ndutu Lake - In the morning, regardless of whether you’re picked up from Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or your hotel, you’ll receive a brief orientation before heading to the Ndutu Lake conservation area. You’ll embark on a full-day game drive with a stop for a picnic lunch in the park. Located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, on the edge of the Southern Serengeti plains, Ndutu is one of the best spots to see predators and enjoy breathtaking landscapes. This area is a calving ground for migratory wildlife, particularly the wildebeest migration. The landscape features short grasslands, soda-lake Masek, marshes, and woodlands that support both resident and migratory animals. You’ll continue your game drive until late evening before returning to your accommodation at Kon Tiki Tented Camp.
-
Ndutu Lake - On the second day, after breakfast, you’ll set out for an early morning game drive in the reserve, which is a popular time for game viewing due to the cooler temperatures. While Ndutu offers excellent game viewing year-round, the best time to visit is from late December to April, when the Great Migration herds are present. During this period, massive herds of wildebeest and zebra can be seen across the plains. Accommodation will be at Kon Tiki Camp.
-
Serengeti National Park - After a good morning, you’ll head to the renowned Serengeti National Park, Tanzania’s counterpart to Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. The Central Serengeti is the most popular area for its abundant wildlife, large numbers of big cats, and iconic acacia-studded savanna landscapes. While resident wildlife makes this area a fantastic year-round destination, it is especially vibrant from April to June and October to December when the Great Migration passes through. Enjoy a full-day game drive with a packed lunch. Accommodation will be at Kon Tiki Africa Camp.
-
Serengeti National Park - On the second day, you’ll embark on another full-day game drive in the Serengeti. You’ll explore various rocky granite outcrops, known as kopjes, which are prime spots for spotting lions and cheetahs. Notable kopjes include Simba Kopje, which inspired Pride Rock in Disney’s The Lion King. These granite boulders are also great for seeing lions basking in the sun. The park’s vast, open plains are teeming with wildlife. A picnic lunch will be provided, and the afternoon will be spent viewing game and taking in the stunning scenery of the Serengeti’s almost treeless plains. Accommodation will be at Kon Tiki Serengeti Camps.
-
Ngorongoro Conservation Area - On the fifth day, you’ll head to the Ngorongoro Crater, also known as ‘Africa’s Garden of Eden.’ This 20 km wide volcanic crater with 600 m walls offers breathtaking views and a rich diversity of ecosystems and wildlife. The crater floor’s permanent water supply ensures an abundance of wildlife. Olduvai Gorge, known for its 3.5-million-year-old fossil fragments of early human civilization, is also located here. As the largest inactive and intact caldera in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater is unique in many ways. Accommodation will be at Rhino Lodge.
-
Lake Manyara National Park - You’ll set out for an early morning game drive in Lake Manyara, home to an evergreen, jungle-like forest filled with monkeys and tall trees, including the dominant sycamore fig tree and the stunning baobabs along the rift valley wall. The forest’s lushness comes from groundwater seeping down from the extinct Ngorongoro Crater volcano. This underground water source can be experienced at the hot springs in the park’s south, where sulphurous water bubbles up, steaming hot to the touch. Accommodation will be at Heart & Soul.
-
Arusha - Depending on your flight schedule, after breakfast, you’ll be driven back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport for your transfer to Zanzibar Island or your journey home. This marks the end of our trip!
