Tsavo National Park East - Tsavo East National Park, one of Kenya’s oldest and largest parks, spans 13,747 sq. km and is renowned as one of the world’s largest biodiversity strongholds. The park is home to the famous “big five”: Masai lion, Black rhino, Cape buffalo, Elephant, and Leopard. It also hosts a variety of other wildlife including Aardwolf, Yellow baboon, Bat, Cape buffalo, Bushbaby, Bushbuck, Caracal, African wildcat, Tanzanian cheetah, African civet, dik-dik, African elephant, Bat-eared fox, and Greater galago.
Tsavo National Park West - Tsavo West is a stunning, rugged wilderness featuring attractions like the Mzima Springs, where fifty million gallons of crystal-clear water flow from beneath parched lava rock, and the Shetani lava flows. The savannah ecosystem includes open grasslands, scrublands, Acacia woodlands, riverine vegetation, and rocky ridges such as the Poacher’s Lookout, offering views of the herds below. Tsavo West is renowned for its magnificent game viewing, including elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffalos, and a variety of plant and bird species, including the threatened corncrake and near-threatened Basra Reed Warbler.
Mzima Springs - Mzima Springs, an oasis in the park’s west, produces an astounding 250 million liters of fresh water daily, sourced from the Chyulu Hills and supplying much of Mombasa’s water. A walking trail follows the shoreline. The 2009 drought significantly impacted the hippo population, which now stabilizes around 20 individuals. Crocodiles and diverse birdlife are also present.
