The fort stands as an architectural testament to the economic and military prowess of the early Yaruba dynasty from the mid-17th century. It was constructed as a military bastion capable of withstanding even the most formidable attacks of its time. The corridors were strategically designed with traps to thwart any intruders who might breach the defenses.
- Birkat Al Mouz Ruins - Birkat Al Mauz Old Village and the Al Kattmyn Irrigation System are located at the base of Jebel Akhdar. The site features ancient village ruins, along with banana and date plantations, and offers stunning views of Birkat.
- Jebel Akhdar - Known as the Green Mountain, Jebel Akhdar is famous for its abundant fruit plantations and rose gardens (with the rose blooming season from May to September). Visitors can also stop at Diana Point for photos. The area offers delightful walks with spectacular valley views, as well as wadis and charming abandoned villages to explore. In the late afternoon, visitors are returned to Muscat.
- Nizwa Souk - Situated near the castle, Nizwa Souq provides a glimpse into old Oman, with some sections preserving their ancient architecture and original structures. The market is a traditional Omani souq, offering the best opportunity to experience the local market atmosphere and its operations.

Wonderful day trip from Muscat - We had such a wonderful private tour in Nizwa with our guide, Muneer! He was super friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole day really enjoyable. We visited an old fort, explored a beautiful city in the mountains, and even stopped by some lovely farms. Muneer shared so much interesting information about the history and culture, and he took us to some amazing spots with wonderful views.
Everything was well-organized and relaxed — we never felt rushed, just had a great time learning and taking in the views. Highly recommend this tour (and Muneer!) if you want to experience the real beauty of Oman.

Wonderful visit of Jebel Shams, Fanja and Nizwa - We had an excellent day with Aziz visiting Jebel Shams and Nizwa. We begin the day visiting the local souq in Fanja before continuing on to the old town of Misfad al Abrieen and Jebel Shams. In the late afternoon we arrived in Nizwa where we explored the souqs, castle and fort, and enjoyed the band who playing in the castle square. Aziz was very knowledgable, and made our visit very comfortable and enjoyable. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this trip.

Day trip to Nizwa/Jebel Shams - We had a great day out with Aziz, who drove us safely up to Jebel Shams, stopping at two charming villages along the way. We then went to Nizwa where Aziz gave us a very comprehensive tour of the fort and castle, and also of the souq. Aziz timed everything perfectly, allowing us to see the band perform in the fort and explore the souq while it was the buzziest. We also enjoyed trying out Omani bread, honey and tea.

From Nizwa to Jebel Shams and the Desert – The Perfect Oman Tour - We had two wonderful days with our guide, Youssef — first in Nizwa and Jebel Shams, and then exploring the desert and Wadi.
I highly recommend booking a tour with Youssef! He is extremely customer-oriented, knowledgeable, and friendly. We had such a great time together, and he shared with us many of the hidden secrets of Oman.

Fantastic Nizwa & Jebel Akhdar Tour - We had a fantastic tour with Ahmed to Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar. Everything was arranged for nice and easily ahead of time and Karen who helped organize things was very quick in responding and coordinating things with us. On the tour, Ahmed was a great tour guide, treating us like family. One of the highlights ended up being the Felaj irrigation systems.
All in all a great tour and a great intro to Oman. We would highly recommend.

Khalid best tour guide Nizwa visit - We went on another trip. Once again, our private host was exceptional; his name was Khalid AlRaqad he was warm, friendly and had much knowledge. I would highly recommend you book with this tour company. We saw other people on tours, but they seemed to come and listen to what our tour guide had to say. We went to Nizwa fort , Nizwa Souq, Jabal AlAkhdhar and Barkat AlMuz old village all of it was beautiful and the history was fantastic. The drive up to Jabak AlAkhdar (green mountain) just the drive along, was an experience..

Wonderfully interesting trip to Nizwa - We had a fantastic tour to Nizwa with Mr Khalid Al Aladawi. He is a fantastic tour guide who went out of his way to accommodate our special needs and requests, and he tried his best to make our day enjoyable. He made the trip so interesting with his good knowledge, and his friendly and pleasant personality made us feel relaxed and at home. This tour with this guide is highly recommended.

Oman Grand canyon & Nizwa souq - Unforgettable experience of Oman Grand Canyon (Jebel Shams), Nizwa Souq, Nizwa old fort from Nizwa.
We met our tour guide (Khalil) that came with nice Omani traditional official outfits.
Talk and show Oman culture .
He has Good information of Nizwa fort.
Showing us Nizwa Souq .patiently took our pictures around.....
Going toward Grand canyon luckly we saw kingfisher bird , sparrows and from far Egptian Vulture flying .very nice view of grand canyon with Omani tea and coffe
Having a traditional lunch and heads back.

Oman - the Middle East at peace! - This Tour is an excellent way to get an overall impression of Oman outside muscat. But you must have a good Guide and driver and Saif is certainly both. it constitutes a long day but it’s very good value and brings Home to one just what a fascinating country this is. Strongly recommended, especially if one has limited time in Oman.
