The fort stands as an architectural testament to the economic and military prowess of the early Yaruba dynasty from the mid-17th century. It was constructed as a military bastion capable of withstanding even the most formidable attacks of its time. The corridors were strategically designed with traps to thwart any intruders who might breach the defenses.
- Birkat Al Mouz Ruins - Birkat Al Mauz Old Village and the Al Kattmyn Irrigation System are located at the base of Jebel Akhdar. The site features ancient village ruins, along with banana and date plantations, and offers stunning views of Birkat.
- Jebel Akhdar - Known as the Green Mountain, Jebel Akhdar is famous for its abundant fruit plantations and rose gardens (with the rose blooming season from May to September). Visitors can also stop at Diana Point for photos. The area offers delightful walks with spectacular valley views, as well as wadis and charming abandoned villages to explore. In the late afternoon, visitors are returned to Muscat.
- Nizwa Souk - Situated near the castle, Nizwa Souq provides a glimpse into old Oman, with some sections preserving their ancient architecture and original structures. The market is a traditional Omani souq, offering the best opportunity to experience the local market atmosphere and its operations.

Oman - the Middle East at peace! - This Tour is an excellent way to get an overall impression of Oman outside muscat. But you must have a good Guide and driver and Saif is certainly both. it constitutes a long day but it’s very good value and brings Home to one just what a fascinating country this is. Strongly recommended, especially if one has limited time in Oman.

A thoughtful and memorable day with incredible sights - We spent a full day touring Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar with Khalid AlRaqadi and had a genuinely meaningful experience. Khalid was respectful, generous, and open to all our questions — from history and culture to daily life in Oman. The day was well-paced and personal, with thoughtful touches like cold waters at the fort or a quick café stop that made us feel cared for rather than rushed.
We really enjoyed talking with Khalid throughout the day. His calm, welcoming and respectful presence and his sincerity made the tour feel more like a shared experience than a scripted itinerary.
Highly recommended.

Seamless tour of Muscat and trip to Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar… - We went on two tours with Khalid…the first was a private tour of Muscat, the second a private tour to Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar. Both were great. Khalid is very knowledgeable about the history and passionate about his country.
He knew the best places to visit in the Nizwa Souq. It would have taken us hours to try to figure that out on our own.
The road to Jebel Akhdar is long, steep and winding. You must take a 4 x 4 vehicle. We would have been terrified to attempt this in our own. We were fortunate to visit while the roses were blooming. It was delightful and about 15 degrees cooler than Nizwa.
Khalid is not only a great guide but also a great driver. We highly recommend him.

My Oman Tour - Jhad came to pick me up from the hotel ahead of the schedule. He was kind, polite and knowledgeable about the places. I recommend him to all the tourists, especially solo. He droves safely.

Great Private Touring from Muscat over 3 days - We booked three full day tours with Star Oman Tours.
Day 1: Sultan Qaboos Grand mosque - Royal Opera House - Shatti
Qurum Beach - Fish Market - Mutrah Souq – Muttrah
Corniche- Al Alam Palace - Bait Al Zubair Museum -
Parliament Photo stop.
Day 2: Nakhal Fortress, Nakhal Hotspring, Wadi Bani Awf, Bilad Sayt
Day 3: Nizwa Fort – Nizwa Souq - Bahla Fort – Jabreen Castle
The first two days we had Waleed as our tour guide, while the last day was with Said Al Kiyumi. The communication with Star Oman was great from the start. Quick responses, very clear about what to expect, flexible to accommodate start times, switch days, etc. The sites, themselves, require no review. They were all beautiful and worth visiting. TripAdvisor has separate reviews for the sites. What I can say is the tour company delivered, and I would use them again. In particular, it was clear Said really wanted us to experience his beautiful country, and inquired many times throughout the tour what else he could do for us, and whether there was anything else we wanted to see. This was on top of a 10-hour tour day! We really appreciated his enthusiasm and willingness to do that. Hotel pickup was exactly as planned. Each night, we received texts vis WhatsApp to confirm the next day’s pick-up time, and whether we wanted any changes. Extremely flexible. We really enjoyed the three days of touring with Waleed and Said and definitely recommend Star Oman Tours. *****

Absolutely loved it! - This trip is highly recommended, our guide ‘Khaled’ showed us so many beautiful, authentic places and everything was perfectly planned. He also beautifully explained the history of the gorgeous place we visited.

Nizwa and Jabel Akdhar Day Tour - Booked a day tour to Jabel Akdhar and was blessed to have Mr Nasr as our tour guide and driver. Mr Nasr was extremely friendly and accommodating. His service was second to none. He is great with kids and even bought us drinks. Mr Nasr speaks excellent English and knows the history of every single place we visited. He doesn’t time watch and will let you take your time at every point. Thank you Mr Nasr for your service. If you book with Oman tours ask for Mr Nasr!!!
