Highlights
  • Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque - The first sight on the tour is Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque which is truly a masterpiece of the world architecture. It took 6 years to erect it and in 2001 it was successfully opened. This mosque is a traditional light Islamic building made from sandstone and marble. It has got 5 minarets – one main and 4 side minarets which create a special distinctive look. The internal design is rich in mosaics, huge handmade Persian carpets and chandeliers decorated with crystals.
  • Royal Opera House - The pearl of the Oman musical and stage art.
  • Mutrah Souq - That’s an ideal place if you want to have a look at the ordinary life of Oman. Just go along the rows, look for the items, bargain and have fun as here you can find everything starting from spices finishing traditional rugs, vases or just souvenirs.
  • Al Alam Palace - Residence of Sultan Qaboos. From both sides the forts surround the palace, so you’ll likely enjoy the magnificent scenery. Located in the center of the city, it always attracts a lot of visitors and, although, people are not allowed to go in, they can easily go around and take cool photos.
  • Bait Al Zubair - Bait Al Zubair is cultural foundation started initially with a private museum that opened its carved wooden doors to the public in 1998. It is funded by its founders, the Zubair family. In 2005 the family established the Bait Al Zubair Foundation as the cultural and social arm of the family-owned business, The Zubair Corporation. The Foundation manages the cultural space and develops projects relating to culture and heritage, the arts, the community, history and publishing. Bait al Zubair displays the family’s collection of Omani artefacts that spans a number of centuries, and is considered to be the finest that is privately owned. Its ethnographic artefacts reflect highly specialised inherited skills that define Oman’s society, both past and present. It is one of the country’s architectural icons and in 1999 was the proud recipient of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos’ Award for Architectural Excellence, the first time it was awarded in Oman.

Brilliant tour - We had a great tour of the city - it ended up being private with our guide Mohammed. We were picked up from our hotel at 8:30 and didn’t get back until about 3:30 so more of a day tour it was great. We visited the grand mosque, royal opera house & adjoining mall, local food market, Muttrah souk, sultans palace and Oman museum. The mosque was incredible, one of the most amazing places we’ve ever seen. The detail and craftsmanship is other worldly. We loved all the other stops as well apart from the souk which was disappointing. Sadly nothing local and the people running the stalls just harass you. Mohammed was so informative, we really learned so much about the culture, history as well was modern life in oman. We loved it and highly recommend the tour. Amazing value.

Muscat - Muscat struck me to the core. The Arab architecture and the Omanis create an incredible atmosphere that is nice to be in. The mosque of Sultan Qaboos, as said by the guide , the main attraction of the city , rightly holds this title. The guide is very lucky! An active, young man answered all questions with ease and was very interested in providing information. Thank you to GuideOman and Vadim for the excellent tour.

Amazing - Jamal is an amazing guide (and driver), very knowledgeable. He went above and beyond to make this tour perfect, and it was. The mosque is stunning, the opera is very nice, after a short visit to the souk I ended the free time by walking along the water, then off to the sultan palace which was also great. The scenery while driving was amazing too.
