Visitors can sample delicacies from up to 8 different stands, including:
• A refreshing or warming organic welcome drink, tailored to the season
• Savory sausage specialties
• Double-baked farmer’s crust bread
• Bavarian antipasti
• Munich’s finest fresh pretzels
• A selection of exquisite cheeses
• Exotic and local fruits
• Freshly squeezed fruit juice
The tour begins at the Isartor, where guests receive a welcome drink from the Demeter-certified St. Michaelshof. The journey continues along the old city wall to Viktualienmarkt. At Bablers Räucherkistl, guests can enjoy a plate of smoked sausage specialties. The tour also features the renowned double-baked farmer’s crust bread from Bäckerliesl, the market’s oldest vendor at over 90 years old. Vegetarians are catered for with an exotic fruit platter from the nearby fruit and vegetable shop.
Throughout the tour, numerous stories guide visitors through the market’s history to the present day: How did Viktualienmarkt originate? When did the market women dance? Where do vendors store their goods at night? How does one acquire a stand, and what fees do stand owners pay to the city?
At the Sauren Eck, guests can taste fresh antipasti with olives, pickled vegetables, and various seasonal specialties. Be prepared for surprises! Fresh pretzels, hailed by many Munich locals as the city’s best, are available from Karnoll’s bakery and coffee shops.
