Alternatively, the cog railway can be taken for the return journey. The glacier cable car between the cog railway’s mountain station and the summit is available for unlimited use.
During summer, sleds (“Zipfelbobs”) can be borrowed from the ‘Sonnalpin’ restaurant, subject to availability. Enjoy diverse meals at Germany’s highest beer garden or one of the many restaurants on the Zugspitze.

Skistadion, Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Constructed during the Nazi regime for the 1936 Winter Olympics and renovated for the planned 1940 Winter Olympics, which were canceled due to World War II. The communities of Garmisch and Partenkirchen were forcibly merged for this purpose.

The Partnach Gorge is a captivating 700-meter (1/2 mile) long and up to 80-meter (260 feet) deep gorge through which the meltwater of the Zugspitze Glacier flows. It is accessible year-round on secure paths and is an ideal destination in any weather!

From the parking lot to the gorge entrance, it takes 25 minutes on foot or, in season, by horse-drawn carriage (approximately € 30.00 for 4 people each way)

Over 2,000 years ago, this was a Roman trade route between Italy and Augsburg. -
