Third Generation Solo Traveler - It was a comfort to have a guide lead me on a solo heritage tour. I could have arranged everything myself, such as the synagogue memorial, other historical markers, and entrance to museums and shul, but it was worth it to give more context to what I saw in my Opi's home city and have company/conversation to mitigate any lingering 3rd gen trauma. Opi was among the 3,574 who left the city by '39, but 4,000+ did not. My Omi was from Bamberg, which is another town that is coming back from the ashes. I was fortunate to have him and my Omi in my life for 15 years and 9 years, respectively. If you have family connections to the Holocaust, let the synagogue (Ohel Jakob) know in advance, dress as you would for an Orthodox shul, and bring your passport to see the shul and the memorial tunnel, the stone from above the destroyed shul's ark (just recovered in 2023!), and experience the resurgence of an active community in Munich, 10k strong.

Interesting tour - This is an interesting tour around the Jewish quarter in Munich. Do visit the synagogue and you will be rewarded with a lot of highly fascinating facts about Jewish life and, of course, about the dark times of the 1930ies and 1940ies for the Jewish Munich population.
