Great Day Trip! - Wonderful day trip for our family while visiting Munich for Oktoberfest. Our guide, Katarina, was nothing short of excellent, providing historical information during the two-hour drive from Munich. The bus stops at a lower level on the mountain where a restaurant is located (and where we returned to have lunch) . We then transferred to a more narrow bus to the top level for vehicles. There is a 120 meter walk through a tunnel, followed by a 120 meter elevator ride into the Eagle's Nest. There are historical photos and items to see inside the building, and outide spectacular views of the Alps in Austria. There are many photo opportunities everywhere on the building level. There is no technical time limit for you or your group at the Eagle's Nest, but you have to return to your bus for the trip back to the restaurant level by a specific time. Lunch at the restaurant was very nice. They have salad, burgers, sandwiches and the like. There is also a store next to the restaurant that sells souvenirs, clothing, and other items. After lunch we took our original bus to the bottom of the mountain to visit the town of Berchtesgaden. Again Katarina provided good information and historical facts. She led a short tour for those so interested, after which we had about 90 minutes to explore the town on our own. There are many restaurants and shops selling a wide variety of items. On the return trip to Munich, Katarina spoke of the history of Oktoberfest, the symbolism and gave general information about where to go. Overall, a wonderful day trip!

Excellent trip! - Bea was a great tour guide. My phone died while on the bus, but she had a powerbank with her and allowed me to use it so that I could still take pictures. It was cloudy when we went but it was an all around great experience and would do it again.

Bring your passport (just in case)! - I received an email at 10:29pm the night before this trip that said to bring my passport with me. I didn’t see this email until I was on the bus on the way to Berchtesgaden the next morning. Apparently Austrian police sometimes watch the border (the bus briefly enters Austria before returning to Germany) to look for refugees, and you have to show them your passport to prove you’re not a refugee. Luckily our bus wasn’t stopped, but it was very poor planning on the tour organizer’s (Mentor Reisen) part to wait until late the night before to warn about the possible necessity for a passport. The whole point of the EU is that you don’t need a passport! Aside from this potential problem, the trip was awesome. Susanne had some good stories to tell and the Eagle’s Nest itself had great views. The brass elevator was cool, and the restaurant in which we ate lunch had great venison goulash. I do recommend the trip with the caveat that you bring your passport just in case!

Good with a couple of things to be mindful of - Trip was great with a number of recommendations: Advertise additional cost to take train up to Eagles Nest and that the tour guide takes cash only, did not see passport requirements until the morning of in note section and did not announce the itinerary for the day as we got started on the bus. Other than that- really good trip and very educational.

Depending on the weather... - I personally found the Eagle's Nest itself quite underwhelming, however the journey to the top was quite exciting. If you have a clear day, there are some spectacular views, but only if weather permits. The hiking trails were very nice. Make sure to leave plenty of time for the Documentation Center. This small museum and it's bunkers were the highlight of the trip.
