Step Into Mumbai’s Coastal Soul: Worli Koliwada Walk - I joined Khaki Tours for their Worli Koliwada heritage walk the day after Narali Purnima, and it felt like stepping into a different Mumbai. Our host, Ruby Malshe, was warm, engaging, and full of stories. She led us through winding lanes and temple courtyards, explaining the topography of the Worli promontory and the rhythms of life in the Koli fishing community, Mumbai’s original inhabitants.
The most memorable moments were at the panoramic views overlooking the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, where Ruby paused for taking group photos with the fishing boats. We explored the historic Worli Fort, East Indian shrines and roadside crosses, the Velankanni Matha wrapped in a saree, and even miniature boat-shaped Tulsi shrines kept outside homes. I loved spotting the fresh handprints and painted eyes on fishing boats—symbols of luck and protection—along with playful neighbourhood cats, striking public art of marine life, and the stone Deepastambhas at the Papvimochneshwar and Chededev temples.
The walk ended at Cleveland Bunder, where the sea breeze and the sight of colourful fishing boats returning home tied the experience perfectly together.
For me, visiting a Koli village is a must-do in Mumbai. It offers an authentic glimpse into the city’s soul, far removed from the colonial grandeur of the British-built Fort area in South Bombay. To understand Mumbai fully, you have to experience both worlds—and Khaki Tours makes that possible.

Interesting, immersive, informative and insightful! - I booked the Castle2Gateway Tour. The group was composed of my extended family - a motley collection of NRIs, Mumbai and non-Mumbai residents, heritage aficionados, quiz and trivia buffs, ranging in age from 16 to 58 years. I have to admit that meeting our very young tour guide Durga Yesade (she is as old as my daughter!), we were sceptical - would this stripling know about Mumbai's centuries-old history? More importantly, we considered ourselves very well-read and well-informed, if not near-experts, on the city. But we needn't have feared. Durga was not only informative and efficient, she spun stories that were both historically rich and accurate as well as studded with examples, insight, and wow moments. Little details about buildings that we would have passed dozens of times came alive, and as she peeled each layer, we oohed and aahed over our discoveries, adding our own two bits, and were quite immersed. We had to cut short the tour by about half an hour because of various commitments as well as a spell of rain, but that was no dampener on our spirits. Kudos to Durga and Khaki Tours for bringing history and our beloved city alive!

Exciting walking #UrbsPrima at the BMC building which enriched our understanding of unknown history. - Yesterday we went for a guided walking tour of #UrbsPrima at the BMC building. Our guide Mr Juber Tambawalla kept us captivated by his unique way of exploring the history of coming into existence of BMC till the recent days of its functioning. He elucidated very lucidly how the necessity for the building was felt, the reasons thereof, planning, decision making et all. We learnt about the existence of a real fort and the esplanade area and many more history.
A big thank you @jubertambawalla and @khakitours.

Khaki Tours' Apollo Gate Walk - Good! - I just did Khaki Tours' Apollo Gate Walk. It was well organised, very informative and just the perfect duration. Though the 90 minutes stretched to 110 minutes, because of the groups' interest!
I will certainly do a few more of Khaki Tours' events - most likely the Ballard Estate walk next.

A good tour and gave a lot of historical insights. Just a flexible iternary would be helpful. We were lucky to have Durg - I enjoyed my tour with Durga. She was very well informed and conducted the tour well. I had gone for the 4 pm tour. I just felt this specific tour which started from Asiatic library and concluded at Gateway of India should have begun from Gateway. My reason being the mumbai high court and university look beautiful when lit. The photo enthusiasts in our group would have got lively pictures. Also Gateway gets very crowded as the evenning progresses.
Ny suggestion is the group could be asked where they want to start from. The morning or night tours dont have this issue. Pls incorporate for thev4 or 5 pm ones.
Also a breif synopsis of what the tour would be like. I am a history enthusiast so enjoyed it but some NRI youngsters lost track midway. They would prefer a shorter 1 our walk across main buildings. So a suggestion to have a shorter tour for ypungsters.
I will def recommend the tour and our very lively ypung tour guide Durga.
