Must do in Mumbai - Rituparna was our guide for the Fort walk. I had booked this walk for my cousin from the USA and myself & we thoroughly enjoyed it. Super engaging, lots of stories, definitely recommend it. Also, it’s really fun to be a tourist in your own city. 10/10

Gateway Gallop heritage walk - Went for the Gateway Gallop heritage walk around the Gateway of India. Learnt about Arthur Wellesley's fountain in Colaba, about the Art Deco architectural style of Regal Cinemas and the Indo Saracenic architecture of the Taj Mahal palace hotel near Gateway. Thought it was pretty amazing that Arthur Wellesley (the man who defeated Napolean at Waterloo) has a fountain named after him near Gateway. Also, did not previously know that the Regal Cinemas building was the first in Mumbai to be built in the Art Deco architectural style. Thank you Khaki Tours for organizing these very informative heritage walks in Mumbai!

Famous arrivals and departures: The Gateway Gallop - The Gateway Gallop walk by Khaki Tours is a trip through the very soul of colonial Bombay. Beginning at the Art Deco Regal Cinema, the walk unfolds little-known stories from Mumbai's colonial past. For instance, did you know that Mumbai has a fountain named after the Duke of Wellington, the man who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo, and that the majestic Royal Alfred Sailors' Home has sculptures of the Roman god of the sea, Neptune? Winding through Battery Street and past the grand Dhanraj Mahal, the tour makes a stop at the Mitter Bedi Studios, which stirs a nostalgia for the golden age of industrial photography. Next to it stands the magnificent edifice of the Royal Bombay Yacht Club, a blend of Venetian Gothic and Indian Saracenic architecture. At Apollo Bunder, we stood at the very spot where Mahatma Gandhi returned to India to ignite the freedom movement. There, history feels close enough to touch. Standing over the Bunder, the grand Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is a testament to Mumbai's spirit and resilience, having fully recovered from the devastating events of 26/11. Finally, we were at the Gateway of India — a majestic, eternal symbol of arrivals and departures, including the Somerset Light Infantry, which left the gateway in February 1948, bringing an end to British colonial rule in India.
