- Ssezibwa River Falls - Tucked away in the lush greenery of Uganda’s landscape is a hidden treasure, showcasing nature’s artistic brilliance. This captivating natural marvel, a sanctuary of flowing waters, rich flora, and ancient tales, has been a well-guarded secret, inviting those eager for adventure.
Upon arrival, visitors are immediately immersed in a symphony of sensations. The sound of rushing water greets the ears, setting the stage for the magic that lies ahead. The scene that unfolds is a masterpiece of nature’s design—two waterfalls descend from varying heights, through the rocks, creating a harmonious symphony of cascading water that flows into a deep pool.
This cultural heritage site is home to over 200 bird species and primates like the red-tailed monkeys.
Before reaching the falls, there is an optional stop at Namawojjolo. Here, visitors can savor Uganda’s delicious street food.
- Namawojjolo - Namawojjolo is renowned for its roasted plantain and nyama choma (BBQ - meat and chicken). It’s a delight for travelers who frequent the market to satisfy their thirst and hunger. One of the most unique offerings here is the roasted chicken, which tastes unlike any other.
- Mabira Forest - This is one of Uganda’s largest remaining natural forests, covering an area of 306 sq km. Mabira Forest is primarily a secondary forest that has thrived for over 100 years with minimal disturbance, resulting in an impressive diversity of wildlife, including 312 species of trees and shrubs, some of which are unique to Mabira Forest. It is home to 316 bird species, 219 butterflies, 97 moths, and 35 species of small mammals such as duikers, bushbucks, squirrels, red-tailed monkeys, and the Uganda mangabey, a primate found only in Uganda.
Mabira Forest has well-established trail networks in three different areas where visitors can enjoy a nature walk and discover the wonders of this beautiful jungle. Experience tranquility while walking under the canopies in what is known as forest bathing. Did you know forest bathing is said to significantly boost immunity?
- Jinja Nile Bridge - The iconic Source of the Nile Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge across the Victoria Nile. It is the region’s first stay cable bridge, replacing the Nalubaale Bridge, which was built in 1954.
- Source Of River Nile Jinja - Finally, visitors arrive at the source of the River Nile. Here, the world’s longest river begins its 4,000-mile journey to the Mediterranean Sea through Sudan and Egypt.
Upon arrival at the source of the Nile, the first encounter is with the beautiful gardens in the area. Next are several craft shops featuring mostly African pieces sourced from across the country. Visitors can then explore and photograph several monuments with historical ties to the Nile. For instance, Mahatma Gandhi requested that some of his ashes be sprinkled in the Nile after cremation, along with many other rivers worldwide. Another monument is that of John Speke, marking the spot where the British adventurer John Hanning Speke stood to behold the “mighty Nile.”

Jinja was founded in 1901 as a British administrative center and grew to become one of the larger towns in Uganda. It became the industrial heart of Uganda between 1954 and the late 1970s - supported by hydroelectric power from Nalubaale (Owen Falls) Power Station, which was completed in 1954. In Jinja, the River Nile has its source as it’s here that it starts to flow from Lake Victoria upwards to Egypt. Jinja district is Considered the capital of Busoga Kingdom one of the biggest tribes in Uganda.
