Jvari Church - The first stop on this extraordinary tour is Jvari Church, known as the “Monastery of the Cross.” Perched on a rocky mountaintop where the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers meet, it overlooks Mtskheta, the former capital of the Kingdom of Iberia. Jvari Monastery, a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox site near Mtskheta, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage list along with other historic structures in Mtskheta. The “Great Church of Jvari” is believed to have been constructed between 586-604.
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - Arrive at Svetitskhoveli in Mtskheta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical importance and numerous cultural monuments. The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, meaning the Cathedral of the Living Pillar, is the second-largest church building in Georgia, following the Holy Trinity Cathedral. A poet once remarked that gazing upon the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral makes one feel the presence of God. This patriarchal cathedral holds a central place among these monuments. Svetitskhoveli is a significant monument of Georgian culture, art, and architecture, known as the burial site of Christ’s mantle. It has long been a principal Georgian Orthodox church and a revered place of worship in the region. It was also the site for the coronation and burial of Georgian kings.
Tsminda Sameba Cathedral - After exploring Mtskheta, the tour continues to old Tbilisi to visit unforgettable sites. The Holy Trinity Cathedral Sameba, Georgia’s main Orthodox Cathedral, was built between 1995-2004 and showcases a blend of traditional Georgian church architectural styles.
Meidan Bazaar - Proceed to Legvtakhevi (Fit ravine), visit the nearby waterfall, and stroll towards the Sulfur bathhouse districts in Tbilisi.
