Educational meaningful sobering and beautiful. - Learned a lot about the plantation historically and functionally. Beautiful place Everyone should go to get the full experience and understanding of the slavery period of our historic that should never have happened and should never happen again. Akin to the holicost of WWII.

Beautiful - I have been wanting to go here basically my whole life. I’m a huge fan of North and South. It did not disappoint. It is beautiful. You can do all of the tours and presentations and I do recommend all of them. The best was the Gullah presentation. She was amazing at telling the story of her people. Would definitely go again.

Highly recommend - The live oak lined driveway is beautiful, as are the house and property. The tour guide of the house was informative and witty. The Gullah culture presentation was superb. Plan on spending several hours there - there is much to see and lots of presentations to enjoy.

Fun day - Beautiful gardens and houses. Great photo ops. Gullah Theater was fun and informative. Lunch at the Butterfly Cafe is excellent. Wish I could go there without a ticket. I would have been a regular while in the area.

A Wonderful Day at Boone Hall - What a wonderful experience! There are numerous things to do and enjoy at the plantation: home tour, slave quarters, a "Gullah" presentation, Gin house, beautiful gardens and breathtaking views. When you enter the grounds it is as one would imagine (at least this Yankee imagines) with a long drive to the mansion down the main drive, lined with old Oaks with Spanish moss hanging off the branches. The grounds include the mansion, a restored gin house, several slave houses, gardens, and a working farm. We started with a visit to the gin house/museum which was very interesting and educational. From there we took a tour of the mansion - a beautiful residence (albeit built more recently than I would have expected, the original plantation home being (apparently) more typical of the reality (rather than the Hollywood) of the souther plantations in the area and much more modest than one would expect). But this was not the highlight of the day. From there we experienced a Gullah presentation. What's a Gullah you ask? They are the descendants of slaves from the area who speak their own language and have their own traditions. The Gullah also weave sweet grass baskets, bowls, etc of which the plantation offers multiple examples and Gullah artists weave and sell their products there. A very interesting discussion from the Gullah presenter which included a history of the Gullah language and hidden meanings of songs we're all familiar with. From there we visited the several slave quarters still on site. Boone Hall manufactured bricks along with their crops and built several brick buildings for housing the slaves using bricks not suited for sale. This had the unintended advantage of providing us with some insight into the history of the enslaved occupants. There are more than a half-dozen of these and each offer an exhibit on different aspects of the tenants and of African-American life in America, then and now. From there we walked the gardens and grounds. The area is stunning. There was a wedding taking place later that evening and it provides an idyllic setting for such an event. The wagon tour provided an overview of the entire property, including the working farms. All these activities were included in the admission price - which I felt was a very good deal. The tour guides/presenters were very knowledgeable and friendly - matching our experience with Mt. Pleasant and Charleston in general. Southern hospitality runs rampant in the area and we always felt welcome. I highly recommend Boone Hall for anyone in the area.

A trip back in time - Really wonderful experience. The setup was great and you were able to pick between several different activities at different times so you really cant miss anything. The tour of the house was interesting and the guide told some interesting facts and history of the place. The trolley ride around the plantation was fun and the guide told some of that history as well. Really enjoyed the Gullah culture presentation. Definitely worth seeing. The Butterfly Café has food available and a nice seating area to relax. Also sells souvenirs. Definitely a whole day trip to really enjoy all they have to offer.
