Medugorje - Visit Apparition Hill, the church, and purchase some souvenirs. During Roman times, this area was part of the Naron district. The remains of a late antique basilica have been discovered. Medjugorje was first mentioned in 1599 in historical documents as an autonomous parish. The current parish was established in 1892 and is dedicated to St. James, the patron saint of pilgrims. The current parish church was completed in 1969 and is dedicated to St. James Zebedee. The first church was built in 1897, but after World War I, due to instability, it became unusable.
