Loved it - It was such a great experience. The tour guides were so nice and helpful. They even gave fun facts about the horses. Mines name was Happy Accident and his story was so cute! The ride there and back had the most amazing views.

I got to experience the tolt (a gait which is exclusive to Icelandic horses)! - I'm a careful, but fairly experienced "Western" horseback rider (female, over 70, from the USA) who wanted to try riding an Icelandic horse once in my life and got the chance at the Laxnes Horse Farm outside of Reykjavik! My specific goal was to experience the gait that is unique to Icelandic horses - the tolt. With a group of about 30 other guests, most of whom appeared to be beginner or novice riders, and 4 or 5 guides (wranglers), we rode out from the farm for about 30 minutes, sometimes just walking and a few times going at a slow trot. The guides were scattered throughout the guests (most of whom appeared to be novice riders), watching the guests’ form and horsemanship, and making corrections where necessary. After about half an hour or so, we arrived at our turn-around point and dismounted for a brief rest. After the brief stop, the group was split into two groups: those who wanted to ride faster and those who were happy to ride back at a slower pace. I chose the faster group. There were 5 guests in the faster group; it wasn’t an even split of the larger group. Our group started back before the rest of the riders mounted. We walked out of sight of the rest of group before picking up speed to a slow trot. Our guide had his head turned for much of the ride back to the farm, watching to see that everyone was riding safely and comfortably. We stopped briefly after the first slow trot and the guide informed us that we would be riding faster now. He again told us how to sit comfortably and how to keep our balance. And off we went! This time as we rode faster, the trot became quite bumpy and then suddenly smoothed out – the TOLT! The guide stopped several more times on the way back to the farm, to make sure we were comfortable and to allow time for the last rider to catch up with the rest of us. Each of those faster riding times we went fast enough for the horses to transition into the tolt. I very much appreciated the care that our guide took with us on that ride back to the farm, in trying to give us the best ride he could, considering our divergent abilities.

Enjoyable even in the rain - My daughter and I enjoyed this tour even though it rained the whole time. Rain gear was provided and the horses didn't care about the rain. The views were amazing and the horses were easy to ride.
