Wonderful Ride in the Beautiful Icelandic Countryside! - We had a wonderful ride! The Icelandic countryside is beautiful and it was great to go in a small group. The guides knew exactly how to pair the horses with riders from very experienced to those who have never been on a horse before. The horses were amazing and are very well-trained and taken care of. The facilities are extremely clean. The guides were so kind, friendly, and helpful. We even spoke with the owner of the farm who has had Icelandic horses for decades and has welcomed many famous visitors to the farm, and even allowed some of his horses to be used for the filming of Game of Thrones! We had a great trip and would recommend this to anyone visiting Iceland. It was the perfect morning activity that even included a ride to and from the farm.

Authentic horseback ride with Icelandic Horses - A beautiful ranch under the stunning backdrop of mountains with the famous Icelandic horses. A dream come true. This is a family owned and run business. My dream of one day seeing the horses and riding on them was fulfilled. Many thanks to the family for their patience and professionalism. I plan to shout their praises to my friends who will make their way to Iceland in the future. If you are looking for this experience book with these folks. They are outstanding.

A really great experience! - A wonderful horse farm and location to ride on Icelandic horses. The owner, his family ,and staff were very welcoming and provided a great experience. The riding path is a scenic ride across streams and between mountains not too far from Reykjavik. I would highly recommend this place!

We booked this as a... - We booked this as a birthday present for my 8 year old daughter and despite not being 'horsey' people ourselves and having no experience we all really enjoyed our morning at Laxnes Farm! Information and instructions were brief but the horses knew what to do and despite unexpectedly heavy snowfall the day before our trip went ahead smoothly and with stunning scenery to admire!

Unforgettable Experience - Was picked up about half an hour before the start time. Received the call and promptly met the driver outside my hostel.
Upon getting there, I was introduced to my horse. The horses are incredibly friendly and well-trained for beginners (this was my first time riding a horse, so very grateful for that). When we set off, it was a pleasant experience and we got to have some fantastic views of the Icelandic landscape around us. When speaking to the guides, they were good humoured and very helpful.
Highly recommend, especially if you haven't ridden a horse before.

Best experience ever! - We were really really lucky with our trip just us and another couple. The owner and his family were extremely welcoming and had a good sense of humour. Horses are beautiful and really well taken care of. The ride itself was very chilled and the two guides who came with us were brilliant. Highly recommend to everyone, doesn’t matter on your horse riding experience.
Will be rebooking this the next time we come.

Great memory for rider at any level - Just got back from Reykjavik last night. What a fabulous time we had! One of our highlights was riding the Icelandic horses.
This family farm is amazing!!! Everyone was so friendly and kind. I’m an experienced rider, my sister and husband are not and they really enjoyed the ride. The horses are beautiful and very well kept. We got a chance to talk to Porri the grandfather who originated the business. He was both fascinating and kind. The scenery is amazing and just so beautiful. Would love to go back to Reykjavik and just spend more time at the farm with this family and do more riding with them.
Don’t hesitate at all choosing this farm. You will not be disappointed!!!

An almost-perfect experience. - Very well organized, friendly and efficient tour. The horses are a joy to ride and the guides supportive (a bit too much?) of inexperienced riders. Overall, we recommend this tour.
One of us, an intermediate-level rider, asked for the opportunity to try the tolt gait. Due to issues with other horses and riders, he only got to do about 15 seconds of it during the entire trip. The other rider in our group would have liked to see this gait performed by other riders. There is a feeling that groups could have been separated to accommodate for this.

Don't Use this Company! Not Good for Beginners or Advanced! - There were five of us at this riding tour on a Monday morning. It seemed good as we took the bus over to it, saw a short film about the Icelandic horses, and put on helmets and rain gear. We were matched to the horses in an unknown way, and I was not comfortable with my horse. Mine refused to leave the starting location! Then, we rode in wind and biting rain. The staff yelled to us but we couldn't understand almost anything they said. I was in the "slow group," and I felt that the wind would blow me off the horse or the horse off the path! The "advanced group" complained that, as soon as they had gotten into the special Icelandic-horse trot, the staff made them slow down and get out of it. The hot chocolate and coffee at the end didn't make up for the bad ride. I don't recommend this tour for anyone!

Definitely A LOT of rooms for improvement - I was quite disappointed with this horse riding tour. The main reason many people come to Iceland for horseback riding is to experience the famous tölt gait of the Icelandic horses. However, during the entire ride, the guides only let us walk the horses and never offered the chance to try tölt.
When I asked about it, the guide said it wasn’t possible because there were beginners in the group. I understand that safety comes first, but I have riding experience, and in other tours I’ve joined, even with mixed-level riders, they usually split the group — one guide leads the beginners at a slower pace, and the other takes the experienced riders for a bit of tölt or canter on a straight stretch. There were two guides on this tour, but they didn’t do that.
There was also another experienced rider in my group who, like me, wanted to try the tölt, and we were both quite disappointed. Unfortunately, her saddle wasn’t tightened properly, and within the first five minutes of the ride, it slipped and she fell off the horse. That was really concerning and showed a lack of proper preparation and safety checks.
In addition, one male participant was smoking while riding and even threw his cigarette butt into the river, and the guides said nothing at all.
Throughout the ride, the guides barely interacted with us or gave any clear instructions. They didn’t even introduce themselves, I didn’t know their names by the end of the tour! Normally, a tour leader would at least explain the basic riding rules — to keep distance, stay in line, not overtake, etc. But there was no briefing at all, so the group became disorganized, with riders constantly moving back and forth and breaking formation. When some beginners struggled, the guide only told them to pull the reins without offering further help.
Overall, the tour felt chaotic and unengaging. As an experienced rider, I felt it was unfair that I couldn’t try the iconic tölt because of the lack of proper organization. The guides also didn’t seem friendly or welcoming — after we dismounted, they didn’t even make eye contact or ask how the ride was. It felt like they just wanted us to leave as soon as possible.
I think this tour has great potential if the guides were more attentive, better organized, and willing to cater to different experience levels — but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for me.
