Blending classes are held weekly at the winery on Tuesdays from 11:00am to 1:00pm and 3:00pm to 5:00pm, as well as on the second Sunday of each month from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Upon arrival, your group will be welcomed and taken on a brief tour of the facility to witness the wine-making process. Guests will then be seated among the barrels, where we will guide you through six wines from three different wine regions in NSW, accompanied by a selection of local NSW cheese and charcuterie. Each group will receive measuring cylinders and have half an hour to create their preferred blend, which will then be judged in a blind tasting. After the tour and tasting, guests can visit our cellar door to explore more varieties. If you wish to bottle your custom blend, we can arrange for it to be bottled, labeled, and delivered to your specified address the following week for an additional fee.

Situated in Sydney, Urban Winery’s blending workshops are counted among the most entertaining and enlightening experiences. Participants, separated into teams, join our lead wine producer Alex Retief for a journey through six unique types of red wine, diving into their scent, composition and taste.
Each team is provided with measuring cylinders and a thirty-minute window to create their preferred blend, such as a mix of 50% shiraz, 30% merlot, 10% petit verdot, and 10% tempranillo. These ‘top picks’ are then collected and served to the teams for a blind-taste test and a group judgment, culminating in the declaration of the day’s champion blend.
While our participants find themselves surrounded by wine barrels in the heart of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, the ambiance transports them to the picturesque vineyards of regional NSW. The session concludes with a tasting of select wines complemented by an assortment of cheese and cured meats.
