Salt Lick Game Lodge
Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge is located within the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private conservancy spanning 28,000 acres at the base of the Taita Hills, adjacent to Tsavo West National Park. The lodge is elevated on stilts above watering holes and feeding areas, providing breathtaking views of the wildlife from all angles.
Each room at Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge features an en-suite bathroom with a permanent shower and WC, hot and cold running water, and 240 volts power. Rooms are available on two levels with options for double, twin, or triple beds, all offering views of the watering holes.
The main restaurant at Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge overlooks the watering holes and serves buffet-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with live cooking stations preparing specialty dishes. The cuisine includes pan-African, pan-European, and pan-Asian options.
At night, the waterholes are illuminated, allowing guests to enjoy uninterrupted views of the many animals that come to drink. The elevated restaurant and the bar, located a level higher, offer stunning views of the sanctuary and are perfect vantage points for wildlife viewing.
Activities at Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge include game viewing, early morning, and late afternoon game drives. The waterholes below offer a fantastic opportunity to observe animals up close in their natural habitat. An underground tunnel and bunker with ground-level windows provide incredibly close yet safe access to various animals as they drink.
Ngulia Safari Lodge
Ngulia Safari Lodge is dramatically positioned on the edge of the Ndewe Escarpment, just below Ngulia Hills, overlooking the Rhino Sanctuary. It is surrounded by scenic hills and offers a vast panorama of Tsavo West National Park’s expansive plains.
Ngulia Safari Lodge features 52 rooms with bath and shower facilities and a balcony offering views of the vast wilderness and floodlit water holes. The main restaurant, designed in an open-air style, overlooks the floodlit water holes and the Leopard dining tree. The lodge’s Leopard view bar opens in the evenings before the leopard arrives from the wilderness.
Guests can cool off in the lodge’s pool during the day. At night, the waterhole by the lodge is floodlit, allowing guests to observe nocturnal animals, including the elusive leopard, as they come to drink. Game drives to Mzima Springs, Rhino Sanctuary, and other parts of Tsavo West National Park are available.
Kibo Safari Camp
Kibo Safari Camp is located at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, which, at 5,896 meters, is the highest freestanding mountain in the world, topped by one-fifth of all the ice in Africa, in the renowned Amboseli National Park, Kenya.
Meaning ‘salty dust’ in Maa, the language of the Maasai, the park is a place of stark contrast. It provides the classic Hollywood image of Africa, set in rolling savannah scenery, dwarfed by the pink-tinged, snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Kibo Safari Camp is a luxury tented camp within the Amboseli National Reserve. The camp features an open terraced restaurant and bar under acacia trees, overlooking the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, and a beautifully landscaped swimming pool.
Each tent at Kibo Safari Camp is equipped with a double bed or two single beds, depending on the guest’s needs. Family tents can accommodate up to eight people comfortably. There is also a small porch/veranda with seats and a coffee table. All tents are electrically lit by power from an on-site generator.
At Kibo Safari Camp, the focus is on the experience of dining in the wild. While meals are served in a covered restaurant and drinks in a traditional bar, guests remain close to the action with large, open areas featuring seats and tables, keeping them immersed in the wild.
Itinerary

After being picked up from the Kenya coastal hotel or airport, guests will drive to Salt Lick Game Sanctuary. The combined area of Tsavo East and West is adjoined by the private sanctuary of Salt Lick. Highlights of this rugged landscape include the red elephants, named for the red dust prevalent in the area. Another fascinating attraction is the Salt Lick Game Lodge, built on stilts overlooking floodlit water holes where large herds of elephants, zebras, and buffalos come to drink. Salt Lick Lodge allows guests to view the game from their rooms as the animals come to drink from a waterhole in the compound.
Day 2: Salt Lick - Tsavo West
After an early breakfast, guests will check out of Salt Lick Lodge and drive to Tsavo West National Park, with game viewing en route to Ngulia Safari Lodge for check-in and lunch. An afternoon safari game drive includes a visit to the Rhino Sanctuary for a chance to see the endangered black rhino among other wildlife in Tsavo West National Park. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Ngulia Safari Lodge.
Day 3: Tsavo West - Amboseli
Guests will enjoy an early breakfast and game viewing en route to Mzima Springs, where clear, fresh water gushes out, home to hippos, crocodiles, and freshwater fish. The journey continues to the Shetani Lava Flow, then on to Amboseli through Maasai land. An afternoon game drive in this magnificent park offers views of Mount Kilimanjaro, with game viewing in the swamps and natural springs. Overnight accommodation will be at Kibo Safari Camp or Ol Tukai Lodge.
Day 4: Amboseli - Mombasa
An early morning game drive in the park is planned, which is also the ideal time to view the eternal snows of Mount Kilimanjaro, weather permitting.
