Amanohashidate - Amanohashidate (天橋立) is a picturesque sandbar covered with pine trees, stretching across the entrance of Miyazu Bay in the beautiful coastal area of northern Kyoto Prefecture. When viewed from the mountains at either end of the bay, the Amanohashidate Sandbar, which translates to “bridge in heaven,” appears as a pathway connecting heaven and earth. This breathtaking view has been cherished for centuries and is considered one of Japan’s top three scenic vistas.

Ine no Funaya - Ine (伊根) is a charming town situated around Ine Bay in northern Kyoto Prefecture, approximately 15 kilometers north of Amanohashidate. Known for its rich history as a fishing village, Ine is celebrated as one of Japan’s most picturesque villages.
The town’s unique feature is its funaya, or “boat houses.” These traditional waterfront structures have boat garages on the ground floor and living spaces above. Today, over 200 funaya remain along the bay, with some now serving as guest houses where visitors can stay overnight and experience the funaya lifestyle firsthand.
- Kasamatsu Park - This observatory offers a stunning view of Amanohashidate, which resembles the Chinese character “一“ for “one.” By turning your back to Amanohashidate and bending over to view the landform between your legs, it appears as a bridge to heaven, a position known as “Matanozoki” in Japanese.
At Kasamatsu Park, visitors can also meet Kasabo, the park’s adorable pinecone mascot! If you’re fortunate, you might even capture a photo with him!
- Motoise Konojinja Shrine - Motoise Kono Shrine is an ancient shrine with a deep connection to the renowned Ise Shrine in Mie Prefecture. Legend has it that the goddess of agriculture, Toyouke-Ōmikami, who once resided in this area, was summoned to Ise Shrine by the sun goddess, Amaterasu-Ōmikami, and has been enshrined there ever since.
In front of the main shrine, there are five colored suedama, a Shinto motif that only two shrines in Japan are allowed to use – Ise Shrine and Kono Shrine.
Within the shrine grounds, there is a suikinkutsu, a Japanese garden ornament that creates a melodious sound reminiscent of a koto harp as water drips into an underground cave. Its enchanting tones resonate from beneath and are as soothing as they are beautiful.

Amano Hashidate Beach - This beach is located on the Monju side of the Amanohashidate sandbar near Chionji Temple.
