Cool experience - Very cool! Professional and insightful. They try very hard to find whales and dolphins. Which they managed to find on our trip! Also gave informative and cool information about local wildlife.

whale watching - Great experience with whales watching. We were lucky to see hundreds of dolphins and also some wales. The crew and staff was very nice and gave us lots of information about the different species. Also knew what to look for. Highly recommend!

Boat trip with many people, not much considering the animals and little explanation during the trip. - Unfortunately no whales seen. A number of dolphins, though. Very massive and on top of the beasts when something is seen. Very friendly and helpful staff. And fine boat.

Disappointing - The day got off to a bad start when the promised tuk tuk pick up was 40 minutes late - promised at 5.45 am and didn't show up until 6.25 am. Considering the boat was supposed to leave at 6.30 am we were unsure we would make it. But it turned out that the boat didn't leave until 7 am anyway. So not sure why our pick up was planned so early.
Mirissa harbour was full of many double-decker boats, some more stuffed than others. They took off one after another, all looking for the same whales. We got a seat downstairs. Note that the seats are small tub affairs, bolted to the floor and not designed for generous bottoms, so if you are at all curvy, prepare for an uncomfortable few hours. Life jackets are available but no-one asked us to put them on. They sat, like decoration, at the front of the boat.
We never saw any whales. We saw plenty of dolphins, but I am sure they were scared witless by the at least 8 tour boats, 2 catamarans and 2 speedboats bearing down on them. I was fearful that one or other or the boats would crash into each other, they were that close. Imagine a bunch of tuk tuks jockeying for position in a busy town. It was like that. Only at sea. With boats.
The guys on the boat did their best. We got seasick tablets (necessary, since it was pretty rough out there), breakfast rolls, cake, pineapple and water. Plus a little talk on what we might see.
We were back in the harbour at 10.30.
I did this tour 9 years ago and I noticed a marked difference. Now there are more boats. Before my boat left at 6.30 and came back at 12.30. This time it left at 7 and came back at 10.30. Before I saw orcas (killer whales) and spinner dolphins. This time I just saw ordinary dolphins. I think the orcas have not been seen here in a while. I don't blame them for leaving - it was a zoo out there!
All in all, it was a pretty expensive boat trip for just a few hours at sea, not seeing a whole lot. I really couldn't recommend it at all.

Trip only lasted a fraction of the 4 hours suggested and although we saw whales it was let down by poor organisation - Firstly and in fairness - we did see whales. Two fin whales swimming together and they were beautiful to watch.
However, the trip itself was very disappointing.
Firstly, we booked for collection in Galle and heard nothing and, so I chased. They eventually responded to say that their profile makes it clear that they only collect in a 5km radius of Marissa - which is not correct. Their profile says there is no charge if within 5km but they will collect outside for an additional fee (which we were happy to pay). We ended up scrabbling around to get a tuktuk for 5am that could take us there on time.
b. the weather was awful (not their fault!) but it was chaos in the marine area. We followed the pin on google maps to where we were meant to collect our reservation but no one was there and it turned out they were on the boat.
c. The boat was very busy and we all sat there for nearly 1 hour before it finally left with no announcements. The various pictures show people with life jackets but no idea what happened there as we did not have any!
d. there was no tannoy and so the poor guide had to keep going up and down the boat so people could hear him. When we could hear (which was limited) he clearly knew his stuff and so it would have been nice to have been able to listen to more information.
e. Wet and cold - the coffee and tea promised would have been nice but no sign. The sandwiches in fairness were ok and they catered for vegetarians which was very welcome.
f. Having spotted the Fin whales we simply turned back and went home even though we had only been out for about 90 mins. First time I have ever known a whale trip just not continue to see what else can be spotted. Again, our driver (who waited for us) said we were "lucky" to find them and get back early so this is clearly fairly standard in Sri Lanka but to me - I wanted to try and see if we could see more and would have preferred to stay out but the option was not there.
So the positives - we did see two whales, food was ok and staff were knowledgable but the rest was chaotic and certainly not the "luxury super grade" that the term implies.

No luxury Boat for 80 people ! - No luxury boat, not max. Of 40 but 80 people on bard. !
Upon asking after about 50 passengers came on board why there are more people coming on board as it said in their offer/trip advisordescription a max of 40 that is why I have chosen this offer, I was told that this tour is for 80 people. OK I told him I will write this down to Trip Advisor.
I was then told by the tour guide to leave and get another boat and nagged me the whole time if I have written this down already as I was looking at my cell phone for the original offer to make sure that I did not get it wrong.
How rude can this be?
Although he calmed down in time this did not help the situation.on that day - Anyway, no whale swere seen on that !
Good, it happens sometime and this was not their fault,
I cannot recommend this company.

No whales - The boat left 30 minutes late so the boat trip was 30 minutes shorter. We didn't get to see any whales at all. The boat stopped as soon as dolphins arrived so it took a lot of time to look at dolphins that could have been used to look for whales.
