In the morning, start with a pick-up from your hotel and be taken through Lima during its 3 historical periods: pre-Hispanic, colonial and modern. You will first be shows a panoramic view of La Huaca Pucllana, which is a great adobe and clay pyramid located in the Miraflores district of central Lima built from seven staggered platforms. It served as an important ceremonial and administrative center for the advancement of Lima culture, a society which developed in the Peruvian central coast between 200 and 700 AD.
Then, visit the impressive historical downtown of Lima with its palaces, mansions, churches and squares, ending with a visit to the residential district of San Isidro and an unforgettable view of the Pacific Ocean from the district of Miraflores. Next, continue with a visit to the Church and Convent of San Francisco, part of the historic center of Lima, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1991. Aside from being a church and monastery, it also contains a library and catacombs.
The catacombs were discovered in 1943 and contain thousands of skulls and bones having served as a burial place till 1808, when the city cemetery was opened outside Lima. It is estimated that 25,000 bodies were laid to rest here and the crypts, built of bricks and mortar, are solid and have stood up well to earthquakes. It is also believed there exists a secret passageway connecting the cathedral and the Tribunal of the Holy Inquisition. Finally, be taken to Mango’s Restaurant at Larcomar so that you can enjoy your buffet lunch with an extraordinary view of the Pacific Ocean. After lunch, be transferred back to your hotel.
