Mitre Peak Milford Sound Cruise - 5+ Stars - We enjoyed the small number of passengers on the cruise, plus getting so close to the waterfalls and other sights. The narration and Manuel’s answers to our questions complemented the tour. Seeing the fur seals and dolphins was a bonus!

Milford Sound Mitre Peak - Arrive early to get parking, costs $10 NZ per hour to park near port. About 10 min walk to boat. Mitre Company boat smaller but gets very close the see sea lions and waterfall.

Great Trip - Really nice small boat with not too much person on it, so I could see everything everywhere at the boat. Good guidance of the captain. Nice coffe, tea and chocolate.

Enjoy the beauty of Milford Sound - Great views of the entirety of Milford Sound in all its glory enhanced by the commentary. As we had kayaked on the sound the previous day this cruise gave us a different perspective including going into the superb Sterling falls on both occasions.

Great trip - Very friendly staff, captain’s commentary was entertaining but not over the top, spoke when he had something interesting to tell us, you need warm clothes and interesting repellent. I asked a few questions by email before our trip which were answered politely and promptly with great information

Refreshing - Beautiful! Although we wish we could've seen some penguins, we saw some seals and gulls and a beautiful waterfall! The mountains made us feel so small! We have an awesome Creator!

Beautiful setting; disappointing tour operator and poorly designed boat - I rarely give such poor reviews, but had to this time. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and we were fortunate to visit on a perfect day with sun and beautiful blue skies. Milford sound did not disappoint, but this tour was definitely for the masses, and was a complete let down. I kind of expected that to some extent, but I didn't expect it to be as bad as it was. The disappointment really started as soon as we arrived to the terminal. We checked in at the terminal and made our way to the dock. There was already a huge line of people, and we waited patiently. The boarding time came and went, and finally a staff member came down the dock to start boarding. However, we could not hear her instructions and didn't rudely force ourselves to the front like everyone else. When we gradually made our way to the front, we confirmed she was boarding our boat (they board multiple boats from one dock and use different colored cards). By the time we were onboard, everyone had claimed the few coveted outdoor seats, and that's when I realized how poorly designed the boat was. There was a fairly roomy interior area, but limited outdoor seating, and extremely limited outdoor space to go stand unless you immediately claimed a spot upon boarding. The boat was seemingly smaller than most other sightseeing boats in Milford, which I can see has some appeal, but this boat was far too crowded. Simply too many people to comfortably accommodate everyone. Had the weather been poor, there would have been more people inside on the boat (and honestly I wonder how they would have all fit ). But with the good weather, people naturally gravitated to the outdoor areas and simply didn't share the space with others. I think there were only two staff members onboard - not a huge deal, but just don't expect any sort of customer service or ability to ask questions. I know this seems extremely negative, and it was with this tour operator. I've been on very similar fjord cruises in Norway, and those were a completely different experience with boat layout, staffing, etc. It was tough to pick a tour operator for Milford , but they largely seemed similar (I think I picked this one because it described their route as slightly longer than other tours - and I figured if we were going all that way, we'd do a longer cruise) until I was actually standing on the dock, seeing the crowds, and comparing the different sightseeing boats. Realizing there are other more exclusive ways to experience Milford Sound, and that this type of tour is for the masses, I'd recommend looking more closely at the boats themselves before deciding which tour to take.
