Highlights
  • Iztapalapa - Would you like to fly over to the largest municipality in MX-City?

So, we have designed a journey to IZTAPALAPA, an area that reflects the daily lives of millions of Mexicans, that otherwise, you would never hear about.

This urban district is full of culture, street food, traditions, and history that comes as far from the Aztecs!

Today it’s a vibrant area that’s re-building its identity through art, leaving behind the stigma of being just a low-income place.

  • Alameda Central - This adventure begins in the Center, specifically at the entrance of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, there we will take the subway to the suburbs, while we talk about the challenge of transportation in the city.
  • Museum of Cultures By Iztapalapa Passion - Then we’ll visit a local museum to learn about the history of Iztapalapa and its current role in holding the largest open community theater in the world.
  • Constitución de 1917 – Línea 2 del Cablebús - After that, the crown jewels are coming: We’ll fly like birds THE LARGEST CABLE CAR OF THE WORLD for a stunning and colorful view of the Street art and the immensity of the valley.
  • Mercado Desarrollo Urbano Quetzalcoatl - In between, we’ll visit a local market for the best taco of your life.
  • Pulquería Vacas Verdes Bellas Artes - Finally, we’ll come back home by metro, finishing our journey at a local bar Downtown, to toast with a pre-hispanic drink: the beverage of gods.

If I could give this tour 6 stars, I would! - Our guide Lionel was fantastic. The tour lived up to everything promised and then some. Lionel showed us around Iztapalapa, where he grew up, and really taught us about the history of the area and through it the history of Mexico City. Riding the CableBus to see how most Mexico City residents actually live was fascinating, from the rooftop murals to the sounds of the city and the multiple libraries housed in decommissioned 737s. Trying Pulque was a treat and the peppermint-flavored version was my favorite. Very delicious! This tour is a must-do for anyone who wants to safely visit outside the tourist areas of central Mexico City.

Explore Mexiko with a local - Aaron explained us a lot about Mexiko and its history. The museum was very interesting and the highlight was the viewpoint on top of it. The tour with the gondola was impressive – we would recommand to everybod who wants to know more about Mexiko than just the typical touristic stuff. We ate the best tacos in town and tasted some locald beverages. Thanks a lot to Aaron for this wonderful experience! All the best for you.

Informative, local life experience - Leonel is a very nice guy! He is knowledgeable, patient and looked after us the whole time. We took the metro and cable car across the city, tried taco and pulque, bought traditional candies and got to know lots of fun stories about the city. It was a very pleasant tour. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Pricey and lengthy for what it is - Our tour guide, Vijay, was excellent! He was very informative, friendly and flexible. He answered all of our questions and was very thoughtful and helpful. However, this is one of several tours with Viator that did not give enough info in the description. This tour includes a long metro ride during rush hour and was in total 4.5 hours long (and we asked to cut things out of the tour, which Vijay obliged). It’s not kid-friendly for very young children. Plus a ride on the cable buses is only 7 pesos from stop to stop. Much cheaper to do on your own if you don’t want/need a guide.
