A Must - Don’t miss out on this museum. If you visit Pompeii and enjoyed, this is a must. This is a world class museum and our guide Michele brought all the artefacts alive for us. Superb.

A memorable day - At the suggestion of Angelo - our guide in Pompeii - in the second part of the day we visited the Archaeological Museum in Naples.
Since most of the exhibits come from Pompeii, I can say that the entire day was dedicated to Pompeii.
It is incredible what the restorers and archaeologists have done.
Pieces of walls taken with paintings and embedded in the walls of the museum, entire floors with dozens of mosaics, including probably the oldest mosaic that reproduces the effect of space, glasses, glass vases no less than those of our days. I saw a compass, which if it were nickel-plated, I swear it is contemporary to me. Even a sink with a marble foot that imitates a shell.
There are thousands of exhibits from Pompeii and only then will you be able to realize how advanced this city was almost 2000 years ago.
You don't need a guide, all the exhibits are also described in English.
However, I think there should be a dedicated application to be installed on your phone.

To complement the visit to Pompeii - If you are planning to visit Pompeii excavation site and or Herculaneum, then the museum is truly a complementary to get the full idea and whole picture with the original artifacts excavated from the original archeological sites.
Not to be missed, by my opinion….. very informative, well organized, and amazingly preserved.

Superb - Amazing experience at the museum whilst holidaying in Italy, was fantastic to see all the artefacts from Pompeii and herceleum sites, was fascinating to see the pure quality of the pieces. Reasonably priced at €20 per person, audio guides can be purchased although we didn’t and found enough information in the museum, not long wait times.
Lovely cafe on site to get hot food or cold food and you can have waiter service if required. Also a lovely shop where you can purchase souvenirs and history books/ children’s books.
There are 6 floors in total however they were doing maintenance work on level 1 when we visited so didn’t get to see this level, the bottom level which is the eyptian level is really cool the other levels can be quite hot and stuffy.
Backpacks must be left at reception and collected when you’ve finished

Not to be missed - Fantastic museum with so many pieces from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Definitely don’t miss this museum. Not only the statues and frescos but some many beautiful furniture and decorative items on display. When we visited, the mosaics were not available for viewing.

Do not miss this. It is wonderful. - Having seen Pompeii and Herculaneum, we noticed that many of the best finds had been relocated to this museum. It therefore seemed sensible to visit them. I am so glad that we did, because it is a staggeringly good museum. Unfortunately, the mosaic of Alexander the Great was undergoing restoration and could not be seen and the Farnese cup was also out of bounds. However, what is left is the most wonderful collection of classical art, arms and household goods I have seen anywhere. We did not book and queued for about 5 minutes to buy tickets. There was a locker for coats and bags. Strangely, I could not find a guide book or plan of the museum, which was a real shame as the building is huge, and finding the things you most want to see can be difficult. If you are Naples for any length of time you should really not miss this.

A real must see museum - What an incredible museum.
We visited before we went to Pompei and that was the best way to do it as it helped visualise the city better.
They have an incredible range of artefacts, the ‘secret room’ with all the adult themed items is particularly fascinating.
They do also have an interesting range of times from other sites in the region.
Allow plenty of time, there is so much to see.

Bring Pompeii to Life - This is a large museum with a major focus on Pompeii and Herculaneum. We have visited both of those sites; we mostly saw the bones in those visits. Here we got a much better feel for the people who were victims of the eruption.
We were very relieved that all of the explanatory cards (which were numerous and very complete) were in English as well as Italian.
We visited all floors. It would have been nice to be given a basic handout showing what was where, but this is only available on-line. It proved to be more trouble than it was worth.
The Egyptian content in the basement was not particularly interesting; more like souvenirs brought home by earlier travelers. Fortunately, the upper floors made the visit very worthwhile.

Fantastic storytelling of Ancient Roman and Egyptian life - If you love the ancient world then this is the place for you! Lots of wonderful examples from ancient Egypt to Ancient Rome. So many amphora. The descriptions were excellent and the top floor stolen artefacts exhibition was my favourite part of the museum. Also lots of huge statues. Good fun to walk about for a few hours. Drinks are around €2.50 for a cold soft drink. Toilets were clean on the top floor. Unfortunately some of the areas were out of bounds for renovations but it was fine. Expect renovations to continue into July 2025.

Amazing museum, shame about the poor service - Amazing museum, poor service at front desk and cafe.
Very busy, huge queue in the sun- just one person at the desk. ...
Cafe - very busy, one person waiting on. Sat and waited for 20 minutes other people were served before us- would have left but nowhere else to watch without leaving the museum
When eventually we tracked a waitress down- slightly rude as very rushed. Half the menu unavailable... panini arrived inedible- salad ok but no dressings provided- another table gave us some. Advice to avoid !
