• Forio - Forio, sometimes mistakenly referred to as Forio d’Ischia, spans approximately 13 km and is the largest municipality on the island. According to Jasolino, a 16th-century physician, the name Forìo originates from Fiorio, as it thrived after the destruction of many villas and castles, becoming the largest on the island, well fortified with twelve towers, artillery, and many distinguished individuals. Other scholars suggest it derives from phoros (fertile) or the Greek chorìon (village).
• Lacco Ameno - Lacco Ameno, with the Bay of San Montano, is nestled like a shell between Monte Vico and Monte Zaro. The view extends endlessly, embraced by the azure sea and rocks that host a rich vegetation of Mediterranean pines, chestnut trees, carobs, oaks, and broom. Pause for about 5 minutes.
• Casamicciola Terme - The municipality of Casamicciola Terme is situated on the northern side of the island of Ischia. Historically, it is the island’s oldest tourist destination.
• Serrara Fontana - The municipality of Serrara Fontana is named after the towns of Serrara (the main town) and Fontana, located along the slopes of Mount Epomeo, approximately 360 m above sea level, with a primarily agricultural economy. However, the municipal area also includes other hamlets and villages. The most famous is Sant’Angelo, a charming fishing village: it is one of the island’s most beautiful and captivating places and has become a prominent, almost exclusive tourist destination. It is no surprise that the so-called Torre di Sant’Angelo, a massive tuffaceous rock connected to the rest of the island by a small isthmus, is now the symbol of the entire mountain municipality. • Ischia - The municipality of Ischia extends along the north-eastern coast of the island and is the first municipality encountered by those arriving from the mainland, serving as the main center of the island of Ischia. It covers an area of about 9 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 16,000 residents.
