From Fes to Merzouga
Fes - Begin the journey in Fes the Medina, where the driver/guide will collect you from your hotel or meeting point.
Ifrane - Ifrane, a Moroccan tourist city in the Fès-Meknès region, is often referred to as “Little Switzerland” due to its pristine streets, European-style architecture, and pleasant summer climate with winter snow. Known for its natural beauty, the city boasts forests, waterfalls, and lakes like Ain Vittel and Dayet Aoua. It is also home to Al Akhawayn University, one of Morocco’s top universities. Ifrane draws many visitors seeking tranquility, skiing, and fresh mountain air.
Errachidia - The Ziz River, a prominent river in eastern Morocco, begins in the High Atlas Mountains near Midelt and stretches approximately 280 km, reaching Errachidia and Tafilalet. It sustains vital oases, such as the Tafilalet Oasis, and has significant dams like the Hassan Addakhil Dam, which supplies water for drinking and agriculture. Historically, the Ziz River was a crucial route for trade caravans connecting northern Morocco with the Sahara Desert. The Ziz Valley was pivotal in Morocco’s trade history, especially with ancient caravans: • Caravans from northern Morocco or Fez would pass through Midelt and follow the Ziz Valley to the south. • This path led to the Tafilalt oases, one of the world’s largest oases. • From Tafilalt, caravans continued to the Sahara Desert, then to Mali, Niger, exchanging salt, gold, and dates.
Merzouga - Arrive in Merzouga in the evening and embark on a camel ride to the camp. Along the way, pause to capture photos of the sunset and enjoy sandboarding. Upon arrival at the tents, spend a delightful night with music and stargazing, following dinner.
Merzouga to Ouarzazate
Todgha Gorge - Todra Gorge, near Tinghir in southeastern Morocco, is one of the country’s most breathtaking natural attractions. Carved into the eastern High Atlas Mountains, the gorge features towering limestone cliffs up to 300 meters high, with some sections narrowing to just 10 meters wide.
A clear river, the Todra, flows through the gorge, offering a refreshing contrast to the dramatic red rock walls. The area is popular among hikers and rock climbers for its numerous climbing routes, as well as travelers who come to admire the stunning scenery.
El Kelaa M’gouna - El Kelaa M’Gouna, known as the “City of Roses,” is a small town in southeastern Morocco, near the Dades Valley. It is renowned for its fragrant roses, which bloom in spring and are celebrated every May during the Rose Festival, attracting thousands of visitors from Morocco and beyond.
Surrounded by lush oases and dramatic landscapes, El Kelaa M’Gouna serves as a gateway to the Dades Valley, the Valley of Roses, and the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” The roses are used to produce rose water, essential oils, and perfumes, making the town a key center for traditional cosmetics and crafts.
Ouarzazate - Arrive in Ouarzazate to unwind at the hotel, which features a swimming pool, and enjoy dinner.
Ouarzazate to Marrakech
Ait Ben Haddou - Enjoy a delightful breakfast before exploring Ouarzazate, including the Kasbah of Taourirt and the famous Atlas Studios, the largest and most renowned in Africa. Continue to Ait Ben Haddou, arriving in time for lunch. Here, explore the iconic Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site featured in films like The Gladiator, Babel, and Lawrence of Arabia.
Marrakech - Cross the High Atlas and the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, traveling a road that climbs from the plains to 2260m above sea level. Pass through charming villages, scenic waterfalls, and a landscape that unfolds in a kaleidoscope of colors amid the stunning mountains. As the day ends, return to the hotel or riad in Marrakech.
