Personal, complete and delicious! - During our tour through Yucatan, Mexico, we attended this cooking workshop. Our guide, Zulma Marin, first took us to the market where we bought all the ingredients. Meanwhile, we got a lot of explanations and were also allowed to taste different things. Then we went to the house of the hostess for the cooking class. Being at her place made it extra personal and special. We cooked cozy with elkasr and then had a nice dinner. Was a very successful day!

Fantastic complete cooking class - Our guide Diego, took us to the Merida markets for a walking tour and also to pick out many of the ingredients we would need for our cooking class. We've taken many cooking classes and a few where we made a trip to the market and we can say Diego's tour of the market was exceptional. Diego told us about fruits and spices native to Mexico, allowed us to taste them and spoke about how they are different from other places we have been around the world. He spent time reviewing some history of Merida Centro, before heading to the host-- Mercedes home. Our host/chef was wonderful and allowed us to actively participate in preparing the meal. This was a hands on class and was well worth our time. The foods we prepared as a group we exceptional. I do not know if they allow you to request guides but we highly recommend Diego and Mercedes.

Great food, great learning, and a day with lovely people - Honestly, what a delightful day. After meeting our guide, Luz, we proceeded to the market to procure ingredients for the cooking class... Along the way, Luz would stop briefly to explain a bit about both Merida history, and to recommend other sites we might want to explore.
We'd visited this GIANT market previously, and found it quite intimidating... Going with Luz was an education on navigating this behemoth, and now we're excited to return.
Berta and Bertita welcomed us into their home and we felt like cherished guests, while at the same time feeling a bit like family. The cooking was educational, fun, clear, and directed... But also casual, laid back, and relaxing.
It was obvious Luz and the family enjoyed each other, which made it an incredibly warm and kind atmosphere.
...and of.course, the food was DELICIOUS!

Excellent - Very good experience with Luz as a culinary guide in the market, she explains the different culinary specialties with typical ingredients as well as many tastings of these products in the market. Then head to the mama mexicana's in her minutes by bus from the center of Merida to cook typical in good mood.
Go with your eyes closed!

Amazing experience - Such an amazing experience. Not only did we get to try new foods, but our guide and host were so inviting and friendly. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to learn the local cuisine. The food was amazing.

Great way to see the big market, learn some cooking, see local life - for not much more than just a market tour alone - Fantastic way to see the market with someone who is knowledgeable of the layout, plus cook some traditional Yucatecan dishes in a home. It is the best of both worlds. The guide for the market portion was a little dry and could be hard to understand, but she eventually warmed up and was great during the cooking portion. It is a long class and visit and half of it is outside walking around the market, where it is very hot. But they take care of you in getting water, snacks, and guiding you. The host at the house was very nice and a great cook.

Amazing - Such a good experience, tried so many different foods even before we go to the hosts house. Such a nice experience and felt like a local. The food we cooked was so delicious and made us so full. Best experience ever!

Best Yucatan Kitchen Experience we could wish for - Experienceing the market with Luz was already a big pleasure, but the cooking class afterwards with Berth was really nice to learn about the Yucatan cuisine. It was also much fun to do this with another (French) family and a US couple. I am going to try to make some of the recipes with my son, here in The Netherlands.

Great experience for fun cooking like the locals. - What a great buying experience in the local
market where we bought all of the fruits, coconuts, salads, chicken and spices that we used to make a fun and delicious Yucatán meal in the home of our cooking instructor’s home. We enjoyed a great time and are all set to make our own empanadas!!
