Hiromi has a beautiful home with a Japanese room and colorful garden which all added to the immersive experience. She also served me matcha and explained the process of drinking it and answered lots of my questions about the Japanese culture. I even bought some items from her to try Ikebana back home.

Wonderful experience - Hiromi’s ikebana class was interesting and fun. My daughter-in-law and I enjoyed learning about the ancient practice of ikebana. Hiromi speaks excellent English, and she explained how the asymmetry and negative space create harmony. She had prepared a written explanation and a template for a leaning composition of 3 stems and 3 blooms. After demonstrating the technique for a leaning composition, Hiroko gently guided our efforts. She had early Sakura branches and spring chrysanthemums for us. At the end, we were able to take the flowers to arrange in our hotel rooms. We were also able to purchase the kenzan (pronged holder) and shears. I am excited to try at home.

Excellent and wonderful. - The overall experience was excellent and wonderful. I had previous experiences in Ikebana, but the teacher made it very clear and understandable for all my other friends, being their first time. She was able to explain the rich history in both English and Japanese, making it helpful for our party. The small treats and matcha at the end really made the entire experience a complete package. I highly recommend this experience to anyone traveling to Japan and those that want to experience Ikebana.
