Sailing Serenity: A Day on the Adriatic with Sandra Boat
Drawn by the allure of Medulin’s archipelago, I embarked on a private boat trip with the “Sandra.” Join me as I explore the serene beauty and thrilling adventures of Kamenjak Park and Ceja Island.
Setting Sail on the Sandra
The gentle hum of the boat’s engine was a soothing backdrop as we embarked on our journey from Medulin harbor. The wooden boat, aptly named “Sandra,” was a charming vessel that promised adventure and tranquility in equal measure. As a marine biologist, I often find myself drawn to the ocean’s mysteries, and this trip was no exception. The promise of exploring Medulin’s archipelago, with its hidden coves and vibrant marine life, was irresistible.
Upon boarding, we were greeted with a warm welcome drink, setting the tone for the day. The crew’s hospitality was evident from the start, and their enthusiasm was infectious. As we cruised along the coast, the panoramic views of the archipelago unfolded before us, each island a gem in the Adriatic Sea. The children on board, ranging from a curious 8-month-old to an adventurous 8-year-old, were as captivated as the adults, their excitement adding to the day’s charm.
Discovering Kamenjak Park
Our first major stop was the southernmost point of Istria, the stunning Kamenjak Park. Known for its dramatic cliffs and underwater caves, it was a marine biologist’s dream. The opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear waters was too tempting to resist. As I donned my snorkel gear, I was reminded of the countless dives I’ve taken in my career, each one offering a new perspective on the underwater world.
The crew guided us to the Golumbera cave, where the play of light and shadow created an otherworldly atmosphere. Swimming into the cave was exhilarating, the cool water a refreshing contrast to the warm sun above. For those who preferred to stay on board, the view was equally mesmerizing, with the chance to feed the fish adding an interactive element to the experience.
A Perfect End on Ceja Island
The final leg of our journey took us to Ceja Island, a private oasis where time seemed to stand still. Here, we had the luxury of a leisurely two-hour stop, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling. The island’s restaurant-bar provided a delightful spot to enjoy a refreshing drink while soaking in the serene surroundings.
The highlight for many, especially the children, was the unexpected encounter with free-range rabbits. Watching them hop around the island was a whimsical touch to an already magical day. As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, we reluctantly made our way back to the boat, our hearts full and spirits lifted.
Reflecting on the day, I couldn’t help but appreciate the seamless blend of adventure and relaxation that the Medulin Boat Trip offered. The crew’s dedication to ensuring a memorable experience was evident in every detail, from the delicious onboard meal to the thoughtful itinerary. While there were minor suggestions for sustainability improvements, the overall experience was nothing short of perfect. It’s a journey I would gladly embark on again, and one I wholeheartedly recommend to fellow ocean lovers.
