A Journey into the Heart of Embera Culture

As a biologist and environmental activist, my travels often take me to the heart of nature, where I can immerse myself in the vibrant ecosystems and cultures that thrive there. My recent journey to Medellín, Colombia, was no exception. I was drawn to the Embera Culture Experience, an opportunity to connect with the Embera community and learn about their rich cultural heritage. This experience promised not only a deeper understanding of Colombia’s indigenous people but also a chance to support a local NGO working tirelessly to aid displaced families.

Upon arriving in Medellín, I was struck by the city’s juxtaposition of modernity and tradition. The bustling streets and towering buildings seemed worlds apart from the serene landscapes I often explore. Yet, hidden within this urban sprawl was a community that held the key to understanding a different facet of Colombian life.

The journey began with a visit to the Niquitao Inquilinatos, a part of Medellín that remains largely unknown to tourists and even some locals.
