Great WW1 museum - As a keen history student of the World Wars who has visited war museums and battle sites in France,
I was keen to visit the museum at Meaux, which is meant to be one the biggest in Europe. A roughly thirty minute train ride from Paris L'est (2.50 euros) then a 15 bus ride (bus stop F outside the train station (2 50 euros) and I arrived outside. An impressively large structure too look at. I had paid for my ticket in advance, 14 euros, I think. There are two areas to visit, the museum collection and then the reconstruction of a WW1 trench. You can do either one first, but it makes sense to do the trench last, as you have left the museum afterwards.
There is plenty to see, so allow yourself 3-4 hrs to see everything.
It is well laid out with a large auditorium and several smaller rooms leading off to the side. As someone else has previously commented, there are a lot of uniforms relating to the various combatants, but also lot of other interesting artifacts as well. The thing I liked the most were the small screens in the different rooms showing footage from the period and relate to the particular exhibition in that room. They only last 3 or 4 minutes, and there are English subtitles. Although most of the descriptions are in French, there is enough information in English and German for non French speakers.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would recommend it to any one interested in military history and/or WW1.

An undeniable educational success - A very great success - The museum offers over 7,000 m2 more than 80,000 collector's items - The presentation is very successful and small spaces with projections allow to rest for a moment because it is sometimes difficult to trample too long - Some pieces are rare and he is happy to be able to contemplate them - Mixture during the visit with participants in period uniforms which adds to the magnificence of the place and the reminder of the sufferings endured during these years of war. Thanks to you Mr Jean François COPE, you have added to the attractiveness of the city of Meaux but you can do more because the people of Seine et Marne are insufficiently aware of the existence of such a nugget a few kilometers from their home.

A Great Museum - A beautiful museum on the War 14-18 which is richly endowed. It mixes everyday objects of soldiers but also weapons, guns and even two tanks. Special mention should be given to the reconstituted trenches on the outside that allow for immersion (although the light colour of the floor covering would merit a darker paint to be even closer to reality). Let us never forget.

Do not hesitate to visit - A museum that should be visited by all to not forget what destroys a war. Millions of young people killed by the ambition of the privileged few

A nice surprise - I was around and I thought, "Why don't you go visit it?"
Well I do not regret my visit, a real museum on a human scale with clear explanations. I'd go back with some friends to show them around.

Excellent WW1 museum - Really good museum about WW1. Did not realise the German army got this close to Paris. Well laid out and lots of information. No cafe open when we were there.

Amazing contrast of tragic and serenity. Place of unmissable memory. - Located a little away from the city of Meaux in a vast park perfectly maintained, this building with bold architecture houses one of the most interesting history museums I have seen.
Excellent scenography, evocative ambient sounds, reconstructions of trench life, poignant documents, very rich collection of uniforms...
I particularly appreciated the space given to “France of the colonies” and the role of its inhabitants in defending our metropolitan territory. A reminder always useful!!!
This museum is both sad and beautiful. Much aesthetics in the reconstructions, much beauty in the exhibition despite the tragic situations. A superb achievement, too little known.
If I understood correctly, and if I interpreted correctly the earthworks in progress at the back of the museum, a trench reconstruction is in progress. This is a very good idea, which can only attract more people. This museum deserves it! We'll be back when this is over.
Very friendly staff, very nice shop rich in books and souvenirs.

Great day - Coming as a family during a reconstruction for the 110 years of the Great War, we had a great day.
For €5 per person we had access to the museum, exhibitions as well as camps and activities around the museum. Very well done, for children also, mine at 5 years old and was captivated and people very pedagogues.
Exterior demonstration of a Saint Chamont tank recreated to scale and firing blanks (this remains very impressive). Presentation of a disappointing German flamethrower because info "sold" as a demonstration when it was just shown worn by a participant.
The food tucks present were good but a little expensive ( 12€ the hot dog very well stocked but still).
Different nationalities represented and exciting enthusiasts.

Very interesting visit - I visited this museum last year and found it extremely interesting. This is one of the historical museums I have loved the most. I really enjoyed seeing the reconstructions of the trenches.

Run away! - To flee!!! Museum uninteresting and much too small , haughty staff and not very pleasant whether it is the guards, the welcome ALL the staff including a guide named Marie who is extremely haughty which does not make you want to learn. I'm not coming back!
