- Trou aux Cerfs - Discover the southern part of Mauritius on a 7-hour private day tour. The journey starts with a pick-up from any location in Mauritius. You’ll meet our driver/guide and set off for your first destination. Your first stop is Trou Aux Cerfs, a renowned natural attraction in Mauritius. This dormant volcanic crater stands about 605 meters above sea level, with a diameter of 350 meters and a depth of around 100 meters. Unlike typical volcanic features, the crater is encircled by a vast forest of indigenous plants and giant green pine trees. It is believed that Trou aux Cerfs erupted once and has been dormant for the last 700,000 years, though experts think it could become active again. One of the main highlights is the 360-degree view of Curepipe town and the majestic Rempart Mountain, Trois Mamelles, and the Port-Louis-Moka Mountain range.
- Grand Bassin - After a short drive, you’ll arrive at Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, a crater lake situated about 550 meters above sea level in the mountainous southwest of Mauritius. On the lake’s shore, there is a temple and several small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other gods. During your visit, you’ll be awestruck by the gigantic 33-meter-high statue of Lord Shiva, the tallest statue in Mauritius. - Mare aux Vacoas - Next, head to Mare Aux Vacoas reservoir, the largest on the island with a capacity of nearly 26 million cubic meters. It’s a popular stop for tourists visiting the south of the island. Although not as flashy as other attractions, Mare aux Vacoas is a hidden gem surrounded by thick forests. It’s the perfect place to spend a few relaxing minutes away from the hustle and bustle. The reservoir offers a stunning view worth capturing in photos.
- Black River Gorges Nature Park - Next, you’ll visit Gorge Viewpoint for a breathtaking panoramic view of endless green landscapes. The unspoiled rainforest of Mauritius covers almost 17,000 acres of rolling hills, deep valleys, spectacular waterfalls, and diverse flora and fauna in the southwestern region. The viewpoint is high above the gorge, offering a stunning view of a waterfall on the right. The path to the viewpoint has a unique ambiance with souvenir stalls, and you might encounter friendly monkeys along the way. The Black River Gorges National Park was established to preserve the island’s natural vegetation and is one of Mauritius’ most important sights. It protects most of the island’s remaining rainforest and is home to many species of wild animals and birds.
- Alexandra Falls View Point - Your next stop is Alexandra Falls, where you can admire the cloud forest of Mt Cocotte and the waterfall, along with a view of the south coast. If you love waterfalls, this is a must-see! Alexandra Falls is hidden in the deep jungle of the Black River Gorges and looks like something out of a movie. Your adventure begins at your hotel where you will be picked up and then go through the town of Curepipe to reach the top of Trou aux Cerfs crater to see an extinct volcano.
Then, head to Grand Bassin Hindu Temple which is surrounded by the crater lake of Ganga Talao. there you will have the chance to see the most prayed Hindu gods.
From the temple then drive to Black River Gorges National Park and Alexandra Waterfall to admire the breathtaking panoramas of the island’s southern landscapes and mountains.
A final stop at La Valley des Couleurs, where the 23 Colored Earth marvel awaits, complemented by an array of local activities. Your journey concludes with a scenic drive back to your hotel.

Exploring Mauritius with Ridwaan - We first met Ridwaan when he picked us up at the airport. He was an excellent driver and a very nice person. He also took the safety precautions due to Covid-19 very seriously so we felt safe. We went all over the island with Ridwaan and he even arranged a private boat for us to see the dolphins. He always took us exactly where we wanted to go which included bird watching and the Ebony Forest. His service was friendly, professional and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
