- Trou aux Cerfs - Begin your 7-8 hour tour in the southwest of Mauritius with a hotel pickup. Meet our guide, hop into a comfortable vehicle, and head to your first destination, Trou Aux Cerfs. This well-known natural attraction is a dormant volcano, standing 605 meters above sea level, 350 meters wide, and approximately 100 meters deep. Unlike most volcanoes, it’s encircled by lush forest with native plants and towering pine trees. Experts believe it erupted long ago and has been dormant for about 700,000 years, though it could potentially become active again. The highlight? A 360-degree view of Curepipe, Rempart Mountain, Trois Mamelles, and the Port-Louis-Moka mountain range.
- Mare aux Vacoas - Next, we’ll visit the Mare Aux Vacoas reservoir, the island’s largest, holding nearly 26 million cubic meters of water. It’s a popular spot for tourists in the southern part of the island, nestled within dense forests. While it may not be as glamorous as other attractions in Mauritius, it’s a hidden gem. It’s an excellent place to take a short break from the usual hustle and bustle. The reservoir also offers a stunning view that’s perfect for photos.
- Grand Bassin - Our journey continues to Ganga Talao, also known as Grand Bassin, a crater lake in the mountainous southwest of Mauritius, about 550 meters above sea level. On its shore, there’s a temple and small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other deities. When you visit this sacred site, you’ll be awestruck by the enormous statue of Lord Shiva, standing 33 meters tall, the tallest statue in Mauritius. Don’t worry, though, Lord Shiva is smiling and peaceful. Ganga Talao is a popular spot in Mauritius where people come to pray, meditate, or simply enjoy the beautiful views. The lake is about 18 meters deep and home to various fish species.
- Alexandra Falls - Our next destination is Alexandra Falls, situated about 700 meters above sea level. It’s one of the most renowned natural sites in Mauritius, often featured on postcards or in videos showcasing the island’s beauty. Alexandra Falls is not only known for its stunning beauty but also for the unique nature experience it provides. While there, don’t miss the opportunity to capture the panoramic view of the turquoise ocean on the South-East Coast with your camera. You can climb a wooden platform to get the best view. To your right, you’ll see Alexandra Falls, resembling a serene white stream flowing over rocky formations. You’ll also have a bird’s-eye view of Mauritius’s lush green valley, home to many unique bird species and plants. It’s a soothing sight for sore eyes.
- Black River Gorges National Park - Next, we’ll visit the Gorge Viewpoint, where you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of lush green landscapes. In the pristine rainforests of Mauritius, there are nearly 17,000 acres of rolling hills, deep valleys, stunning waterfalls, and an exceptional array of plants and wildlife in the southwest. You’ll be amazed at how high the viewing area is above the gorge. To the right of the viewpoint, you’ll see a mesmerizing waterfall. The path leading to the viewpoint has a unique atmosphere and some souvenir stalls. The Black River Gorges Nature Reserve was created to preserve the island’s natural vegetation, making it one of Mauritius’ most significant attractions. This national park safeguards much of the remaining rainforest on the island and is home to various wild animals and birds.
- Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark - Our next stop is the seven-colored earth, a natural wonder and a popular tourist attraction. These colors are the result of basaltic lava transforming into clay minerals. You’ll witness a surreal and almost otherworldly sight of rainbow-colored sand dunes, set amidst lush green surroundings. It’s one of those astonishing gifts of nature that make you say “Wow.” This area consists of sand with seven distinct colors - red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, and yellow. What’s even more fascinating is that if you mix the colored sand, it will eventually separate into distinct layers. The colors may even play tricks on your eyes and appear as shadows. There’s also a Tortoise Park and a Souvenir Shop with local Chamarel products, while the Coffee Shop offers a delightful cafe experience.
