• Matera - Our journey begins in Matera, where we will delve into the city’s rich history and breathtaking landscapes. Stories will be shared about Matera’s transformation from a symbol of poverty to a UNESCO World Heritage site. The adventure starts in the ancient Sassi districts, guiding you through a maze of cave dwellings and alleys. Discover how these caves served as homes, churches, and monasteries, offering insight into the lives of people over thousands of years. Next, we will visit a rock-hewn church, adorned with ancient frescoes. To gain a deeper understanding of life in the Sassi, we will tour a “Casa Grotta,” a restored cave home furnished as it was centuries ago. Afterward, enjoy some free time for lunch. Following lunch, we will proceed to Alberobello.
• Alberobello - Upon arrival in Alberobello, the tour begins in this remarkable town, famous for its iconic Trulli houses. We will explore two fascinating districts: Aia Piccola and Rione Monti. Aia Piccola is a quieter area with fewer tourists, where some Trulli are still used as private homes. Rione Monti, though more touristy, features charming and decorated streets lined with hundreds of Trulli, the town’s signature whitewashed, conical-roofed dwellings. We will visit a trullo house to better understand its construction and how people lived in them. Additionally, we will visit the unique church dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, built in trullo style, harmonizing with the surrounding architecture. Finally, enjoy some free time to explore on your own before returning to your accommodation.
