The reservation agent, Amir, responded to our request promptly and professionally. There was an initial mix-up regarding the price listed on the website, but Amir quickly resolved the issue. Our scheduled pickup time was 4:00 AM. Our driver, Mr. Mustafa, was punctual and courteous. We were staying in Marsa Alam, and the drive to Luxor took approximately five hours. The vehicle—a comfortable, air-conditioned car/van—made the journey much more pleasant. Mr. Mustafa is a considerate and skilled driver; although the freeway is generally good, there are a few bumpy stretches, which he skillfully avoided, ensuring a smooth ride. The journey included rest stops, and we recommend bringing snacks and water or purchasing some along the way, as the day is long and involves a fair amount of walking and climbing at the Valley. Be prepared to pay a small fee to use the bathrooms, and always check for toilet paper before entering the stall. Also, use local currency for these fees, as coins in foreign currencies (like Euros) cannot be exchanged locally. Upon arrival in Luxor, we met our guide, Mrs. Selma Malik. She is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Valley of the Kings, and her educational background is impressive. Her explanations were clear, succinct, and helped us better understand the significance of what we were seeing. We visited five tombs in total—three included in the tour price and two available at an extra cost—and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Afterward, we visited an alabaster atelier, where we received an interesting overview of the alabaster-making tradition. The visit included a stop at a shop where items such as vases are available for purchase—bargaining is expected, and we ended up buying a vase. Our final stop was the Temple of Karnak. Though in ruins, the temple is awe-inspiring and a true testament to ancient Egyptian architecture. By this time, we were getting quite hungry, as we weren’t used to having lunch as late as 2:30 PM. However, we understood that the tour transitioned from the West Bank (Valley of the Kings) to the East Bank (Karnak). Lunch was served buffet-style at a lovely restaurant by the Nile. The selection was decent, with good vegetarian options available. After lunch, the tour concluded, and Mr. Mustafa drove us back to Marsa Alam. Once again, the drive was smooth and comfortable, with rest stops as needed. We found this tour online based on excellent reviews, and now, having experienced it ourselves, we can wholeheartedly agree. The professionalism of the staff, the comfort of the transportation, and the quality of the guiding all contributed to a memorable and worthwhile experience.
