Jemaa el-Fnaa - The journey begins from your accommodation in the Medina of Marrakech (or from the airport if your flight arrives early).
High Atlas Mountains - One of the highlights of this trip is the High Atlas Mountains. After an hour’s drive from Marrakech, you’ll be captivated by the stunning views of the Atlas Mountains and the small Berber villages. There will be stops for photos at various panoramic viewpoints and an optional visit to a women’s Argan Oil cooperative.
You’ll drive through the highest pass of Tizi n’Tichka (2260m) and then continue to Ait Ben Haddou Ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - Aït Benhaddou is a historic ksar along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakesh. It’s a prime example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
The Ait Benhaddou ksar is renowned for its traditional Southern Moroccan architecture and has appeared in numerous films. A visit to this UNESCO site transports you to another era.
The Ksar has been a filming location for many movies, including Jewel of the Nile, The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones.
After spending about two hours exploring this unique site and having lunch, we’ll continue to Ouarzazate, known for its cinema studios.
Atlas Film Studio - An optional visit to these studios is available, or we can stop for a photo. The entrance fee is 8€ per person for the sightseeing group tour, which usually takes 40 minutes.
Kasbah Amridil - Depending on the season (April to October), we may stop to visit this kasbah. Kasbah Amridil is a historic fortified residence in the oasis of Skoura. It is one of the most impressive kasbahs in Morocco and was featured on the Moroccan 50 dirham note.
Founded in the 17th century, the kasbah initially consisted of a fortified village. In the late 19th century, M’hamed Ben Brahim Nasiri, a local scholar, was commissioned by Madani El Glaoui to build a fortified mansion at the ksar.
Vallee Des Roses - At the end of the day, you’ll enjoy the stunning Roses Valley before reaching the Dades Valley. The Valley of the Roses, carved by the Assif M’Goun river, offers a scenic 30 km paved road with breathtaking views of the red rock and green valley.
Roses Valley / Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Merzouga desert
Boumalne Dades - After breakfast, you’ll head to the Sahara desert through the famous Dades Valley, stopping for photos before driving to Tinghir Oasis and then to Todra Gorges.
Tinghir - Tinghir is an oasis about 30 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide. The climate is arid subtropical with hot, dry winters. There are a few rainy days per year, mostly in fall and winter.
You’ll stop to enjoy the oasis, take photos, and then continue to the famous Todra Gorges, Morocco’s grand canyon.
Gargantas del Todra - The Todgha Gorges are a series of limestone river canyons in the eastern High Atlas Mountains. The last 600 meters of the gorge are the most spectacular, with sheer rock walls up to 160 meters high.
During the dry season, the canyon floor is mostly dry and easily traversed. During the rainy season, the Todra can expand massively, covering the canyon floor with a strong torrent.
You’ll have free time to walk and enjoy this amazing attraction, a top destination for rock climbers.
Erfoud - After lunch, we’ll reach Erfoud, the last big city before the Sahara desert. Known as the capital of dates and fossils, Erfoud is an oasis town where the Ziz Valley and Todra Valley merge.
This area of Morocco resembles certain areas on Mars, making it a field research location for Mars analogue research. In February 2013, the Austrian Space Forum conducted a month-long mission simulation here.
Merzouga Experience: Explore the desert & have enough time for outdoor activities
Erg Chebbi - By sunset, you’ll reach the famous Erg Chebbi sand dunes. We’ll use a 4x4 to drive to our desert glamping site, where you’ll be welcomed with mint tea and shown to your tent with shower/bathroom. Enjoy a warm dinner in a traditional restaurant tent.
After dinner, enjoy local drumming music around the campfire, participate in local dances, and experience the starry sky. If the weather is favorable, you might see shooting stars and the Milky Way.
Merzouga desert - Anti Atlas Mountains - Ouarzazate - High Atlas Mountains - Marrakech
Rissani - Start your day with a beautiful sunrise and breakfast in your desert glamping site before meeting your driver to head back to Marrakech.
After an hour’s drive, you’ll reach Rissani, the last big city before the Sahara desert, known for its donkey parking.
After Rissani, we’ll drive through a destination popular with filmmakers due to the stunning Sahara Desert scenery. Films like The Mummy, Prince of Persia, and SPECTRE were filmed in these rugged desert mountains. We’ll continue through the Acacia Valley to Alnif, Tazarine, and N’kob.
Nkob - After a few hours’ drive, we’ll stop in N’kob, a village with 45 kasbahs surrounded by two oases full of palm trees. Many of these ancient kasbahs have been renovated into hotels.
Draa Valley - After lunch, we’ll travel along the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river at 1,100 kilometers. The river flows from the High Atlas mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. You’ll enjoy amazing views of kasbahs and palm trees.
Agdz - We’ll have a quick stop for a panoramic photo of the lush oasis and Jebel el Kissane at Agdz. Located along the old caravan route linking Marrakech to Timbuktu, Agdz played a crucial role in the exchange of goods across the Sahara.
Anti-Atlas Mountains - Enjoy another wonderful view of the Anti Atlas Mountains and Ait Saoun Mountains. We’ll make a short stop for a photo before continuing to Ouarzazate and the High Atlas Mountains.
Ouarzazate - From Ouarzazate, we’ll take the same road as the first day of the tour. You’ll be about 4 hours from Marrakech, enjoying the views of the Atlas Mountains.
Tizi n Tichka - We’ll have a short stop for coffee and a bathroom break before driving back to Marrakech. The drive usually takes 10 to 11 hours, depending on stops and lunch time.
Marrakech - By sunset (depending on the season), we’ll reach Marrakech. Our expert driver/guide will drop you off at your hotel or the nearest accessible point to your riad. This marks the end of our service. See you on your next adventure trip to Morocco.
