Arusha to Mandara Hut

Marangu - Begin the Marangu Route adventure with an elevation increase from 1830m/6000ft to 2740m/9000ft. Starting from Moshi, enjoy a picturesque 1-hour drive through the delightful Village of Marangu to reach the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. Amidst the lively preparations, permits are issued for the upcoming trek. As the team gets ready, the trail meanders through the breathtaking rainforest, offering stunning views and insights into the local flora, fauna, and wildlife. Be prepared for muddy and slippery conditions at the lower elevations, making gaiters and trekking poles highly advisable for a safe and enjoyable hike.

Mandara to Horombo

Horombo Huts - As the elevation climbs from 2740m/9000ft to 3690m/12,100ft, the Marangu Route reveals the second stage of its journey. After a restful night and a hearty breakfast, the trek continues beyond the rainforest, ascending through a heathland adorned with giant lobelias and groundsels. The path unfolds across open moorlands, where small shrubs dominate the landscape. A lunch break at a scenic spot offers breathtaking views of Mawenzi. Continuing the ascent, the trail reaches the Horombo Huts in the late afternoon, nestled beneath the awe-inspiring Kibo Summit viewpoint. As temperatures drop, the surroundings transform, setting the stage for a magical night on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Horombo to Marangu to Arusha

Arusha - The final leg of the Marangu Route descent takes you from 3690m/12,100ft to 1830m/6000ft. After a heartfelt breakfast and a ceremonial moment of appreciation and team bonding with the dedicated crew, it’s time to bid farewell to the majestic slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The descent continues, with a stop at Mandara Huts for lunch, providing an opportunity to express gratitude through tips to the guides, cooks, and porters, who have been instrumental in the success of the adventure. Returning to the Marangu Park Gate, you’ll receive well-earned summit certificates as tokens of your remarkable achievement. As you descend through warmer weather, expect wet, muddy, and steep terrain, making gaiters and trekking poles highly recommended. At the gate, a vehicle awaits to transport you back to your hotel in Arusha. Enjoy a long shower, a hearty dinner, and joyous celebrations, reflecting on the triumphs of this unforgettable journey.
