The reserve is located on Maputo Bay, approximately 100 kilometers southeast of the city of Maputo, Mozambique. The Reserve is 1,040 km2 (400 square mile) in extent and was originally proclaimed in 1932 to protect a small population of coastal elephants resident in the area.
The reserve combines lakes, wetlands, swamp forests, grasslands and mangrove forests with a coastline that lies within the Maputaland Centre of Endemism. According to the latest data, the number of elephants in the reserve is about 400.
Currently it forms part of the Usuthu-Tembe-Futi Transfrontier Conservation Area.
Fauna: Includes +400 African elephants, Birds (Kingfisher, Fish Eagle and many more), zebra, antelope, crocodiles, hippos, small bucks (red duiker, suni, reedbuck and steenbok).

Day visit to Maputo Elephant park - Excellent day out if you like safari’s. Picked up on time from the hotel . The guides name was Calisto. Good driver and lots of information. The vegetation is so different from Kruger. Coastal forests open grassland and areas with reeds and water. Lovely to see Reedbuck on four occasions as well as numerous red duiker. We spotted more wildebeest than impala! Amazing. Then the ocean. Unspoilt and stunning. Very enjoyable day out thanks to Calisto .

Great trip for one day - Everything was great! Good communication and organization. The park is beautiful and we saw a lot of animals including elephants, giraffes, zebras and crocodiles.
The driver was on time and very friendly. Definitely recommend!

Everything perfect - It was a wonderful experience, we were picked up on time, before the aprtenza we could ask questions and receive all the information by email and what s. The tour was complete very interesting and we were really good discovering also some curiosity about animals

Visit Maputo National Park— you won’t be disappointed! - I had a wonderful day exploring Maputo National Park with Maputo Tour Guides! My guide, Edilson, was very communicative about setting up the trip in advance and he was extremely knowledgeable about the park: both its history and where to find the wide variety of animals within. He exhibited a high degree of knowledge about the different animals and had great spotting skills! And was a very nice person to spend the day with— I learned a lot from him about Mozambique and its culture. We saw a whole family of giraffes, elephant mom and baby, countless antelope species, hippos, waterhog (including babies), and crocodiles. A wonderful safari day— highly recommended!!

An unique chance to experience the nature of Mozambique - A well arranged private tour with an experienced guide who took us to the right places to see the wildlife! Maputo national park is a very beautiful park to see elephant and giraffes in the wild in a fantastic natural scenery. A must do if you visit Maputo!

Unique experience visiting Maputo National Park - The visit to Maputo National Park was excellent. My guide Edilson Manjate is a deep knowledge of the park and the animals of the park. Fantastic views, unique experience.

Great tour. - Maputo Tour Guides' services were extremely professional and on time.
The guide was on time and informative, providing relevant details of the Park and what to expect.
The Park has very clear guides that make up for a very enjoyable trip in a framework of respect of the environment.

Great - Awesome tour, Edison was great. The national park was cool, saw a lot of giraffes and zebras, one hippo, no luck for elephants. I requested that we go for lunch at millibangalala resort and they were very willing to accommodate and very responsive to communicate with before the trip . I’d definitely recommend asking for this stop as the resort and beach are really beautiful. The tour also provides a nice picnic lunch. Overall a great experience.
