Arusha – Lake Manyara
Manyara - Guests are picked up from Moshi/Arusha and transferred to Lake Manyara Park. Arrival is typically in time for lunch at the lodge, and after lunch, a day game drive in Lake Manyara Park is planned. This park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically situated wildlife areas, featuring a vast but shallow soda lake (covering a third of the park), located at the base of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s diverse habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Lake Manyara’s unique tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos drawn by the algae in the lake.
Lake Manyara – Serengeti Plains
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, the journey continues towards Serengeti Park, passing through the beautiful high-lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, the descent into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti Park – begins, with its endless plains stretching as far as the eye can see. The destination is the park area known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and attracts wildlife representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. Arrival is in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti Park.
Serengeti Plains
Serengeti National Park - Be among the fortunate few to glide in a Hot Air Balloon over the Serengeti Plains (available at an additional cost by pre-arrangement). Floating above the thrilling bush, while spotting wildlife and enjoying the magnificent scenery of Africa, across rivers and over various small villages. A post-breakfast game viewing drive on the Sogore River Circuit is planned, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River, and is excellent for potential sightings of lions, Thomson gazelles, topi, ostriches, and cheetahs. The Visitor Centre near the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites is well worth a visit after the morning’s game drives. This well-designed centre offers some fascinating wildlife displays as well as a gift shop selling information leaflets and maps of the area. The centre also has a shop where cold drinks and snacks can be purchased, as well as a post and information trail up and around a nearby hillock. A relaxed picnic lunch will be enjoyed at the centre in the shade of the large acacia trees. In the afternoon, the Kopjes Circuit will be followed, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes that often attract a number of lions and some impressively large cobras. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops, scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink.
Serengeti Plains – Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - After breakfast at the lodge, departure to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is planned. A visit to the Olduvai Gorge is included, revealing a history dating back to the dawn of time. It was here that the anthropologists Drs. Louis and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man’, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution.
Ngorongoro Crater – Moshi/Arusha
Arusha - After an early breakfast, a descent of over 600 meters into the crater is planned to observe wildlife on a morning safari tour. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a vast variety of animals, including herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and large African elephants. Another major attraction of this picturesque conservation area is its dense population of predators, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the elusive leopard, which often requires a trained eye to spot. A visit to Lake Magadi, a large but shallow soda lake in the southwestern corner, is included, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos, and other water birds can often be seen here. In the afternoon, lunch will be served at the lodge, after which the transfer back to Moshi will take place. Upon arrival in Moshi, the African safari journey concludes. Guests will be taken to their hotel, marking the end of the safari services.
