Excellent tour/ tour guide - Me and my dad did the guided tour at 10.30 on April 19th 2026, I didn’t get our tour guides name but he was absolutely brilliant, his level of detail, brilliant story telling and tour guiding skills were second to none, paired with a lovely sense of humour and some sentimental personal stories about tickets etc. I would highly reccomend the guided tour to anyone who attends TNFM as it was a brilliant experience made even better by a great tour guide.

Great museum to visit - Visited the football museum as part.of our anniversary break to Manchester. We loved learning the history of men and women's football, seeing original kits, programmes and contracts. Was a great time had.

Highly recommend - This was a most enjoyable experience, all thanks to our guide ( we visited on 13th February 2026). He was informative, enthusiastic and personable, and interspersed his football knowledge with personal stories of going to games with his Grandad. Just the right length and even if only slightly interested in football I would recommend a visit, as the historical context and the development of the sport is a fascinating story.

Great museum, very interesting - We visited during a wet midweek, February day, no queue on arrival, blue light card discount available and the ticket lasts a full year.
Each floor was interesting and so much to look at. Also enjoyed the interactive parts. Could very easily spend all day in here. The building is also very unique.
My bf enjoyed trying to get on the scoreboard for the penalty kicks - he didn't so it's been added to the list of places to go when we are next in Manchester.

Could be improved - I had high expectations—I thought I would see more historical facts and key milestones in the history of football. I believe the experience could be improved, especially in how the historical events are presented and narrated.

Good trip, but awful tour guide - So it was a good trip All in All, we were impressed by the various different games and activities. It was a good trip for budding footballers and family members. The café was not too badly priced and there were a lot of options for different dietary requirements. However, the gift shop was severely overpriced, but I guess that was expected. There were some really cool artefacts and a lot of information and apparently the exhibition changes every six months. Also, if you’re a UK citizen, you can come back for free within a year. Bonus points if you’re a resident of Manchester, you can enter for free. We spent around four hours at the venue and it was great for families and friends. Family friendly vibes but cool enough for teenagers and it wasn’t too crowded when we went.
However, there were a few drawbacks. There is an optional tour that is included in the cost, although you’re allowed to do it independently there is an option of having a tour guide. Unfortunately, after completing the tour with a tour guide, we wished we had done it independently. The tour guide gave us no option but to be along with her group however we were the only people in her group. We clearly saw why afterwards. 🤦♀️
She decided to commence on the tour and throughout the duration of the tour, she proceeded to make passive racist and prejudiced comments towards us as we are visibly religious. She was extremely excluding to our older daughter and did not bother with her during the three hour tour, she treated her as part of the brick wall. The tour guide also called the father of the family dad and daddy and also just kept rambling on about one Team just because somebody had mentioned. She seemed to focus on certain members on the household rather than others.
She skipped a lot of the important parts of the tour and then show us just a few trophy thieves and she spent hours and hours going around them and talking about them. The tour guide also spoke to us in a very condescending and childish voice even though the youngest member our party is 13, not 4. She also made not very humorous jokes about bringing the Manchester United mascot to our house and she proceeded to claim she knew which town we lived in.
The tour guide also did not get the hint when we were visibly very very bored. She just carried on going round and around and our mother had to request to pause the tour because we were running out of time and the venue going to close. She proceeded to say that the tour was going to be 5 more minutes it wasn’t it was much much longer.
The tour guide also did not stop talking when there was a security announcement. Instead she started to yell over the security announcement, which is probably not the best practice of health and safety.
When we then practically forced her to end the tour she carried on following us around the venue and continued to acccopamny us sporadically.
Unfortunately a very good visit ruined by a very bad tour guide. Hope to return in the future when a specific tour guide has hopefully left.

Hoped for more - Went for a family day out. We have a football mad teenager so felt this would be fun.
Greeted by friendly staff and informative guide in the entrance. He explained the layout of the museum etc. we went round, but found a lot of interactive exhibits out of order. Also, felt some of the information was out of date and need a refresh or brining up to date. Bit disappointed

Shame. Was looking forward to this. - Disappointed. Displays were dark, with small font and hard to read colours. Like many modern museums the emphasis was on screens and interaction rather than the treasure trove of history I hoped for. Found the layout confusing and there feels alot of focus on the games modernisation (women's game and racial integration etc) instead of the history I hoped to see more of. Entrance fee felt expensive for the experience and I was done in under an hour. I thought there would be a problem when I turned the first corner and everything in the sparsely decorated downstairs hall were unimpressive replica. 10 foot remade protest sign and a modern mini (cos George Best to drive a mini) is hardly something to be Nationally proud of.
I'd imagine schools and younger ones would enjoy the interaction, games and challenges more.
Highlights? Staff were pleasant and I saw a poorly lit Gary Lineker hologram.

Could do so much more to display what is our national game - Poor show. They could do so much more to display what is our national game. One third of the exhibition given over to black players, - but why so much emphasis on the Slave Trade?
Another third given over to Women's football. Fine, but no references to other footballing formats, (Walking Football anyone?)
My advice - save your money!
