Silaa Safaris invites you to explore the Malindi Museum, a structure constructed at the end of the 19th century echoing the architectural styles popular at this time, particularly in the historical towns of Lamu and Mombasa. This building, known as the column house, is a quaint two-story edifice with a tile roof, and it opened to the general public as the Malindi Museum in May 2004. The museum showcases rotating exhibits, including the notable Malindi Coelacanth. It also houses relics linked to the adventurer Vasco da Gama and displays from the Portuguese era of Kenya’s coastal region, besides images of some of the nation’s archaeological locations. On the other hand, Falconry houses snakes, a large tortoise, and crocodiles, along with birds, mostly hawks and owls, which are allowed to ‘free fly’. While visiting the ZOO, guides will escort you around and provide detailed information about various species to all visitors.
