Great experience visiting waterfall and mount bromo - We had a great 2 days doing the Tumpak sewu waterfall and Mount bromo trips. Our guide Nadal was great throughout. He messaged us the night before telling us what to expect and bring on the trip. We were picked up the next morning on time and driven safely to the waterfall. The walk down was a little slippery but we went in our own time and never felt rushed. Our guide took great photos of us and let us spend a lot of time by the waterfall. We then walked to the caves and he helped us if the climb was difficult. After the waterfalls we asked Nadal if we could get some food and he took us to this lovely place for lunch. In the morning Nadal was on time picking us up at 12:30am we had a 2 hour drive to the mount bromo area so we all had a nap in the car. We then got moved into a jeep and drove the final hour closer to the sunrise viewpoint. We arrived early so had time to sit by a little fire and drink some tea to warm up (it does get chilly but there are people renting out jackets for 20,000). We had a great chat with Nadal asking him about his life and work in Indonesia and he was interested in learning about London where we are from. The sunrise spot was busy and full of people - we did go on the weekend so it probably was worse. But it definitely is busy although that doesn’t take away from the amazing view which luckily it wasn’t cloudy when we went. After we went back to the jeep to head to the crater but some jeeps further down the road broke down so we were stuck for an hour and half waiting. Although it wasn’t so bad as we got out and stretched our legs and had a tea while we waited. Once we made it down to the crater area it was so dusty and sandy but thankfully nadal brought us face masks to wear. I would say make sure you have small change with you as every toilet was 5,000. The climb to the crater was fairly easy it looks steep but it’s ok. You’re only allowed to be up there for 15 mins due to the sulphur activity. It was amazing to see and so worth the trip to see inside a volcano. Afterwards we went to have breakfast but due to being stuck for an hour and half we got to the breakfast buffet towards the end and there wasn’t much left and lots of flies around. So make sure you bring plenty of snacks to fuel yourself during the day. Overall it was an amazing trip with a brilliant friendly guide. We are glad we done it and will always remember our time.

Best experience in Indonesia - We did this tour with our Guide Nadal, and it is undoubtedly one of the best experiences of our trip to Indonesia. From the beginning, we were amazed by the beauty of the landscape: from majestic waterfalls to hiking , each moment was unique. Nadal was an exceptional Guide, always listening to our desires and very friendly (plus we had the same reading tastes). He made this adventure even more special, especially during our ascent of Mount Bromo. This trip was a real immersion in Indonesian and culinary nature!

Amazingly Majestic and Extraordinary Experience - My boyfriend and I had an amazingly majestic time during our trip to Tumpak Sewu and Mt. Bromo! Truly one of the most extraordinary things we have experienced during the whole trip was to be able to witness and experience the beauty and wonders of nature. The weather was great for both places. A huge shoutout to our guide, Nadal! He is such a great tour guide, giving us the best ‘secret places’ for our photos. He is fun to talk to and is also very considerate and patient with us. Also, a huge thanks to our driver, Ricky, who has been very accommodating and professional during our trip. Overall, our experience with the tour is truly one for the books!

Fantastic from start to finish! - We are a family of four from London, England, two adults and two children aged 15 and 13. We hadn't arranged any activities prior to us landing in Indonesia but knew we wanted to see Bromo and Ijen. We opted against an organised trip from Yogyakarta to Bali, as the agent we were speaking to was not very clear or responsive. Instead we decided to make our own way to Yogyakarta and do day trips with IDN. I'm not sure why there aren't many reviews of IDN compared to other companies suggested by Lonely Planet but we didn't have many options available to us. I contacted IDN by WhatsApp late in the evening and to my surprise Budi from IDN immediately responded back! I enquired about the Bromo tour and if it was possible to arrange at short notice, Budi was very honest with us and advised doing the tour the day so the driver could be arranged. I had lots and lots of questions about safety, and Budi was super helpful and reassuring the entire time. Always remaining responsive. After having read reviews I was hoping to request Nadal as our guide but he was unavailable. Instead Budi recommended Nasifa (Ifa) as our guide and reassured us that she was also very good. We also opted for the sunset Bromo tour rather than sunrise as we are not early risers and with our family didn't fancy the long night time drive to capture sunrise. I had read that sunset is equally spectacular. The morning of our Bromo tour, Ifa messaged to say that they were running slightly late, which was fine as we were still having breakfast! We appreciated the constant update and actually they arrived not very much later after the scheduled time, which was around 30 minutes later than the original time. Note that traffic always delays things and is quite unpredictable! We set off for the Bromo tour at 12:30 so had a great start to the day with breakfast at our leisure. Ifa and the driver collected us from our hotel in a lovely new car, very comfortable and clean with bottles of water provided for all passengers. Ifa is amazing. What a kind, wonderful and interesting person. Our driver was also great, I didn't catch his name but he was professional, a safe driver and also had good conversation. Ifa is very knowledgable not only as a guide but is very well educated (Japanese Literature). I could go on and on about Ifa but there is so much such to say, what I would like to say is if you are a family and want someone emotionally intelligent, safe, kind and an outdoorsy person, you will be very lucky to have Ifa as your guide. She is very strong and at all times would look out for us and ensure we are taking a safe route. Now about Bromo: it is not easy, despite it being heralded as one of the most accessible volcanos in Indonesia. The drive is long, but fine in a comfortable car with a safe driver, as our was. There are a few stop off points to take wonderful photos, and we changed drivers and into a 4WD to take us up to the base of the crater. The 4WD driver was also very good. Now here is the bit where we lucked out and not information that is readily available: but we had all viewing points explained to ourself. Given we were on the sunset tour there was a lack of other tourists and we felt like we had an exclusive VIP tour of Bromo. It was incredible. So you have to walk across black volcanic sand for about 30 minutes. Wear walking shoes that are comfortable, and a hat as it is an open expanse so gets very hot. Next you reach a steep set of steps, around 244 steps counted by us. It's moderately tough going climbing up those in the heat, but doable. If you have any issues walking or stability this is not something to attempt to do. We run every day and are fit but this was not easy for us. Not super difficult (Jungle in Bukit Lawang was really tough, and we abandoned that) but not easy. You eventually get to the top and it's incredible, nothing was missed given we did the sunset tour, save for the fact that there were only a few visitors rather than the hordes we hear go on the sunrise tour. Beware: the guard rails around the crater have long crumbled from wear and tear, so it is wise to take caution while approaching. That said it's an incredible experience and with a sensible approach is not to be missed. With younger children, I'd recommend holding their hands. Ifa kept us safe and on track for sunset at all times. The last stop off point was to take in the breathtaking views at sunset, which we managed to do. Again we were the only tourists there as so took the most wonderful photo. If was a great photographer and companion at all times! After a long day, we headed back so grateful to have spent the day in a one in a lifetime experience with the IDN team, ready for the next day waterfall trip. The waterfalls are not to be missed, it was a special day, again, not an easy trek, and safe walking shoes are a must. There are some challenging moments where the climb can be slippery and I'm glad our children are older and able to navigate themselves, However Ifa was there at all times to look out for us and safely guide the way. You get soaked, so pick up a phone cover and a rain mac if you don't want to get drenched. My husband and I both got macs but the children didn't! I would not recommend going in flip flops or slip ons as you need to navigate your way across water and through jungle like trails. Sensible sandals are fine - but will soaked. Again, car and driver was excellent. Tips: communicate via WhatsApp. English is excellent and all your queries will be answered promptly and honestly. Take safe and comfortable walking shoes for Bromo. For sunset no need to take layers as you will not likely get cold. Avoid sunrise as your get everything and more with sunset (if you don't want the early start). Waterproof walking sandals for Waterfall, but not for those who may struggle with walking or fitness levels. Specify all requests via WhatsApp, that way your can clarify car, private or shared tour. As a family of four, we had a private tour.
