- We had a really enjoyable tour. Communication beforehand was a little bit confusing as we ended up speaking with three different people over WhatsApp, but it turned out to all be ok and they all worked together. Pick up and drop off from Hanoi was smooth and right at the door of our Hanoi old quarter hotel. We were picked up on time at 7:30am and got back to our hotel about 7pm. Bus was comfortable, although no wifi, water not offered round, and not all seats had working chargers. Tour included a few stops on the drive for photos and a two hour cycle ride including a weaving experience and stop for view and cafe (no pressure to get anything). There was no pressure to tip or review at any point which is always good for having a comfortable trip as a tourist. Lunch was included and was a very varied buffet. My peanut allergy was accommodated well. The bikes were a little bit worn but staff did help us select the best bike and pumped up flat tyres for us. No helmets on the cycle and some busy/bumpy roads so make sure you are a confident cyclist, but the pace was good and just a basic level of fitness needed. Staff and locals were all very pleasant throughout if a little quiet at times. Price was exceptionally cheap and excellent value to see more of the countryside and have a quiet tour away from all the crowds. This trip was able to go ahead on 24th July 2025 when our Ha Giang loop was cancelled over the same period due to the typhoon weather. Tour company kept us updated over WhatsApp well regarding if tour was happening due to the weather. I would definitely recommend this tour for those on a budget who would like to see the countryside and go somewhere more relaxing and less touristy. Although there are fewer reviews for this day trip, the company has lots of reviews and we had a really enjoyable day so I would encourage you to go for this tour, especially given the price! Do not worry it is a genuine good deal! Kirstie from England

Great look at village life - Great tour, the guide was a local who shared his local knowledge freely. We chose to walk not cycle so, had a very long walk through the village farms & rice paddies giving an up close and authentic look at traditional life. If you choose walking, you may want to ask if the route can be a bit shorter. There was a lovely lunch included in a local family restaurant. Would recommend this tour.

8h of disappointment for 1h of fun - This is a OK day trip, but there is better things to do in or arround Hanoi.
4hours + 4 hours ride in a bus that have seen better days. Bus is packed, I sat near the driver on the way in, and one person had to seat somewhere where there is no actual seat. They advertise 10 ppl but it is absolutely not true, more like 18 in the bus, 14 in the bike ride.
The stop is in a uninspiring place, with a nice view (often in clouds due to Vietnam weather)
The mai chau valley is beautiful, you will get 2hours there, but if you remove the time spent in market, the actual bike ride is like 1hour. One very enjoyable hour in a beautiful scenery, but it will “cost” you a full day in Hanoi. The bikes are barely working, there is not enough, so you won’t get a proper size, and they lack oil so much that any gentle slope will feel like a Tour de France Mountain Pass.
Lunch is just ok.
All in, I would say that it is a low cost daytrip that feel like a low cost daytrip, the bike ride is very good, but a whole day for this nice hour is not time well spent if you stay 3 days in Hanoi. If you have to pick one daytrip from Hanoi, Ninh Binh is much better enjoyment per minute than this.

Okay, could be better - Arriving at the homestay for lunch, it felt like the guides were shuffling around, seemingly lacking organization. After lunch, the overnight and day trip travelers were assigned to their own guides. Lunch was lackluster. We enjoyed cycling through the villages and along paddies. There were stops to get a peek at locals' weaving, music, dance, and village life. I was hoping for a deeper perspective into life in Mai Chau but I had to manage my expectations. The place is lovely, and sadly rather 'prepped' for tourists' eyes. A guide during the lengthy trip to Mai Chau would've been nice.
