The Chacchoben Mayan Ruins are the leading and most frequented day-trip destination in Costa Maya, located roughly 50 minutes by car from the Costa Maya Port. This historical site, a stone’s throw away from the Chacchoben village, borrows its name from the said village. In Mayan language, ‘Chacchoben’ translates as ‘The Place Of The Red Corn’. This archaeological site is renowned for its huge temples and colossal platforms that date back to 700 AD.

After disembarking your ship proceed to find the parking lot. There we have transportation with our logo on them and one of our drivers can take you to our office. Oh, if you like, you can go directly to our office. We are located one block from the port exit on the left side of the Mayan temple.

Excellent Guide and history on the Mayan people - On the way to the ruins our guide Juan Carlos gave us an excellent detailed educational history of the region and the culture of the Mayan people. We were encouraged to ask questions.
The van we were transported in was very clean and air conditioned. At the ruins more history and photo opportunities. I will just add that the guides depend on our tips as part of their income. I was disappointed that with all that we received from our guide only a few people tipped.

Incredible deal… highly recommended! - This tour was amazing and highly recommended. Carlos was the guide and Gabo was the driver. Carlos was very engaging and gave us so much information. He was great with my kids (17 and 14) as well as the two 10 year olds in our group. They stopped at a little store on the way back and then a reputable roadside stand for incredibly fresh and delicious fruit. Zero complaints and grateful we had such a great experience at the Mayan architectural site.

Great tour - Esielo was a fantastic tour operator, very knowledgeable and friendly would highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to explore the Mayan Ruins.

An Amazing Adventure - The bus ride to the ruins was nice and comfortable. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny! The ruins were amazing to see and the information given there was interesting. There wasn't a whole lot of time to take pictures at each spot so if we wanted to take pictures we had to miss a bit of information given at the next place we stopped at because we would have to catch up. I know there is a time limit on the excursion so it's not anyone's fault. It would be great if we were given a bit more time, but as the saying goes, if you get more time, that wouldn't be enough either! 😉

Go See Chacchoben Ruins - Amazing to see these ruins. Chacchoben tour guide very informative. Saw monkeys and birds in the trees. Took lots of photos. Guests can climb on one ruin. It is a unique experience.

Mayan Ruins Tour - Juan Carlos and Victor were great! We felt at ease and relaxed with them leading the way. My family enjoyed the tour and we found it very fun and educational. They welcomed us with cool beverages and continued to make sure we were hydrated throughout the tour. We would definitely do it all over again! This was an amazing experience. Thank you.

Happy with the tour. - Toucan tours provided an excellent tour and history of the ruins. Carlos was our guide and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour bus was comfortable and our family enjoyed the tour. It was a little confusing to find our way from the port to the outside area where there we representatives from Toucan Tour. The vendors inside the port area provided no assistance whatsoever for us to find our way to the outside area. In fact, they misled many tourists indicating that they could go through their shop to get to our destination.

Toucan Tours - Great Team! - Carlos was very, very good as a tour guide. Extremely knowledgable, explained the Mayan culture, history and locations perfectly. Made the ride to and from the ruins enjoyable and memorable.
Gabriel was also a fantastic and helpful driver. Ensuring a smooth ride and assisting everyone in need of getting onto and off the bus.
Great team! Highly recommend these guys!

Trip to Choccoben Ruins. - I wouldn’t recommend the trip to Choccoben Ruins. The drive from the port is over an hour, and the journey in the minibus didn’t feel very safe. Once there, you’ll need to walk a bit and climb some stairs, which was especially difficult for us as it started raining, making everything slippery and uncomfortable. The tour lasts about an hour, and while our guide, Eliseo, was very knowledgeable and professional, the overall experience didn’t meet expectations. Unfortunately, it’s just not worth the drive or effort.
