Iglesia de Santa María del Naranco - The Catholic churches of Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo are situated on the southern slopes of Mount Naranco de Oviedo, approximately four kilometers from the city center. Initially, Santa Maria was not intended to be a church but served as the Aula Regia of the palatial complex constructed by King Ramiro I on the outskirts of the capital in 842. Its artistic style is known as “ramirense,” part of the pre-Romanesque Asturian.

Metropolitan Cathedral of San Salvador of Oviedo - The Holy Church Basilica Metropolitan Cathedral of San Salvador de Oviedo is a Gothic-style cathedral located in Oviedo (Principality of Asturias, Spain). It is also referred to as Sancta Ovetensis, highlighting the quality and quantity of the relics it houses. Construction began at the end of the 13th century with the chapter hall and cloister, continuing for three centuries until the tower was completed in the mid-16th century. A girola was added in the 16th century, along with various chapels attached to the side naves.

Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias - Opened on May 19, 1980, from the art collection of the former Provincial Council of Oviedo, it is now managed by the Ministry of Culture of the Principality of Asturias and funded by the Principality and the City Council of Oviedo. The Museum boasts a collection of nearly 15,000 works, including approximately 1,500 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, and industrial arts (around 4,000 pieces), with a permanent exhibition of 800. It features works by Spanish, particularly Asturian, and foreign artists, including Italian and Flemish paintings, as well as sculptures, photographs, and glass and earthenware objects. In 2017, the collection was significantly enriched with 33 important works donated by Plácido Arango Arias.

San Francisco Park - Campo de San Francisco is an urban park located in the heart of Oviedo (Spain). It is one of the city’s most iconic spots and one of the largest urban parks in Asturias. Originating from the orchards of the former Convent of San Francisco, it features several walks and avenues: the Alamos walk, the Bombé walk, the José Cuesta walk, Italia avenue, and Germany avenue, among others. It includes a pond and numerous well-known monuments such as the statue of Mafalda or José Tartiere.

Teatro Campoamor - Campoamor Theatre is Oviedo’s opera house, established in 1892, renowned for hosting events like the Princess of Asturias Awards.

Plaza del Fontan - The Fontán is now a rectangular street and square in Oviedo’s old town, Principality of Asturias (Spain). Its name derives from the spring or fountain that filled the original lagoon in that area. Once used as a comedy corral, it is now a focal point of the Fontán market and hospitality area. Adjacent to it is the covered market of El Fontán, dating back to 1885.

Casco Antiguo - This is the center of Oviedo’s old town. From a single tower, it stands on the basilica built by order of Alfonso II, “El Casto.” The first altar to San Salvador was consecrated on October 13, 821, 1,200 years ago. Although most of the basilica dates from the 15th century, due to numerous reconstructions, it combines different artistic styles, predominantly the flame-lit Gothic.

Monte Naranco - Standing atop Mount Naranco offers a breathtaking view of Oviedo below. This rounded hill, with an altitude of 636 meters and over 30,000 square meters of open natural space, crowns the Asturian capital and provides its best panorama.

Calle Uria - Uria Street is the main commercial thoroughfare of Oviedo, the capital of Asturias. It is named after the politician José Francisco Uría y Riego.

Puente Romano - The medieval bridge of Cangas de Onís, or puentón, is a structure spanning the Sella River as it flows through Cangas de Onís, separating the councils of Cangas de Onís and Parres, with half belonging to each council. It is a symbol of Cangas de Onís and part of its coat of arms, along with the cross on the inverted crescent commemorating the victory over the Muslims in the battle of Covadonga and the legend Minima urbium, maxima sedium (minimum city, maximum seat). In 1931, it was declared a historic artistic monument. Many locals from the Sella River area often go salmon fishing nearby.

Basilica de Santa Maria la Real de Covadonga - Known as Santa Cueva or the sanctuary of Covadonga, it features a waterfall or stream forming a pool at its base. Nearby is the fountain of the Siete Caños or “fountain of Marriage,” where, according to popular belief, young women who drink “without breathing” from its water marry within a year. The couplet goes: “The Virgin of Covadonga/ has a very clear fountain;/ the girl who drinks from it/ gets married within the year.” Flanking the road and guarding the sanctuary entrance are two large lions sculpted in Carrara marble, exact replicas of those made by Pompeio Marchesi. The altar is adorned with images related to the battle of Covadonga, and nearby are the tombs of Don Pelayo and his wife Gauiosa, as well as those of his son-in-law Alfonso I and Hermelinda.

The lakes of Covadonga are two small lakes, Enol and Ercina, of glacial origin located in the Asturian part of the Picos de Europa national park, in the western massif of said mountain chain. There is a third lake, Bricial, which only has water during the thaw, but also belongs to the group.

Gijon

Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura - The Gijón Labor University is a building located in the parish of Cabueñes in the council of Gijón. Constructed between 1948 and 1957, it served as the headquarters of a Francoist institution aimed at educating the children of workers until the 1980s.

Playa de San Lorenzo - San Lorenzo beach is situated in the heart of Gijón. With a length of 1.5 km and a shell shape, it is likely one of the most famous beaches in Asturias.

Mirador de La Providencia - This viewpoint, shaped like a ship, is the perfect spot to capture a photograph and immortalize the sunset. Previously, it was a shooting platform where ammunition was fired by the Spanish Army. However, ten years ago, the lands of Alto de La Providencia transitioned from military use to a public space known as Parque del Cabo San Lorenzo, where now only kites soar.

Barrio de Cimadevilla - Cimadevilla is a neighborhood in the central district of Gijón, Asturias. It is the oldest part of the city, with Roman origins, and retains the aesthetic of a 19th-century fishing district.

Shaped like a large dinosaur footprint, the Museum offers one of the most comprehensive and educational displays on these fascinating reptiles.
